Re: St Christopher's
Unfortunatly mr booth died :( Legend
|
Re: St Christopher's
I remember Mr Day teaching us maths when I was there in the seventies - god I was terrified of him. I'm racking me brains trying to think of one other teacher who used to scare the living daylights out of me, think he taught woodwork but we had him for a form teacher - used to throw his board duster at you like a weapon! Got it - Mr Riding (or 'Neddy' as we affectionately called him :) )
|
Re: St Christopher's

Re: St Christopher's
Neddy used to terrorise most of us non woodworking types unlike misters booth, day and company, neddy used whatever he held at the time for dishing out corporal punishment (3 by 2)? yes those where the days,
as a rider to this though, I worked many years later with a lad who had been taught by him at woodnook and he claimed he was a great teacher thanks tony |

any certain ladys? or great pals who you miss? |
Re: St Christopher's
MR Green (JG) frightened the hell out of me!
Probably because I'm dyslexic, there was no such thing in those days of course! |
Re: St Christopher's
Mr Green!!! the Jabba the Huttesque English teacher with the annoying tongue flick affectation? was still there in the early nineties when I was leaving. I have never seen a person as broad around the waist wear trousers quite as high as he did!
|
Re: St Christopher's
Was there till 74. Anyone remember Mrs Thornton (Alice), English Teacher, unfortunately she passed away this week.
Used to laugh at Hywel Williams Science Teacher...none of his experiments ever worked!! Lol! Best Regards - Taggy |

I did like our music teacher thou ithink her name was Brown. Remember doing needlework on the second floor and the windows were open when they first built the building and the skirt I was making went out the window.Prayed that thread didnt break (it didnt). |
Re: St Christopher's
I remember Miss Brown the music teacher, yes she was lovely. Also remember doing needlework in the Cocker building - that wasn't so lovely, I think the teacher was Mrs Livesey??, I was so rubbish at it she left my report blank one year :)

Re: St Christopher's
I recall Neddy Riding telling us that he was going to make his own coffin for when he died, wonder if he ever did that. There was also an English teacher called Miss Brown who wore short skirts and used to sit on the front of her desk during lessons...was one of the few classes were the lads used to try to bag the front desks!!!;)
Best Regards - Taggy |
Re: St Christopher's
Are you sure you're no thinking of Miss Barnes, the DS teacher - never known so many lads be glad to be doing cookery :)
|
Re: St Christopher's
No was definately Miss E Brown for English, there were two Browns there at the time, the other was Mrs S Brown the Music Teacher, do remember Barnes'y too though!:)
Best Regards - Taggy |
Re: St Christopher's
Fair enough, don't remember an english teacher with that name - the only ones I had were Mr Green & Alice (The Dragon)Thornton
|
Re: St Christopher's
Alice Thornton died last year, she was a resident at Woodlands nursing home at clayton.
Does anyone remember Gwen Park, or Sausage legs as we used to call her. Think she used to teach English literature up in the library room! Best Regards - Taggy |
Re: St Christopher's
Miss Park was my form teacher in my first year at Chrissy's, also remember Mrs. Illic who taught history and Miss Kenyon (French).

The very first class i had on my first morning was taken by Mr Otter. I was very quiet and shy then, and when given a form to fill in i asked Mr Otter if it was ok to write using Black ink. To which Mr Otter replied..." You can Write in Blood for all i care Laddie!!"........Phew, welcome to secondary school!!

|
Re: St Christopher's
Sorry Ann I was just re reading these,Went by Irene Kennnedy back then.
|
Re: St Christopher's
I think I do remember you back then Irene.....you had blonde/light brown shoulder length hair from memory. I know you were not in my set - so bit sketchy on details. U live in the USA now? I have lived last 16yrs in Portugal. Love it. Got up to "Godīs country" once last year - went to stay a few days with David Barrett in Whitworth (remember him?) and it was great to see the surrounding places like Mellor and Clitheroe but would not want to go back to accy (as much as it holds very dear memories for me).....
|
Re: St Christopher's
Where in Portugal are you Red Rose I'm in Huelva just across the border.
I'm Brian Smithies by the way before your time I think, I left in 69 |
Re: St Christopher's
I live in Vilamoura, Algarve. Know Huelva quite well....we go shopping at Cote Inglęs from time to time - always get lost in the centre, every single time we go!!! Yeah, I left in 76 but I bet you Jolleys was still the headmaster back in your days. Probably Mr Day and Mr Green were there too. Do you work in Spain? I am running an interior decoration business (have done so for the last 13yrs) but it is v.quiet with this recession and I doubt this year is going to be a good one. Only people I see making money down here right now are supermarkets and security alarm companies.
|
Re: St Christopher's
I Live in Gibraleon not Huelva it's self. its very near though and I go there quite often. I have only just moved here when my wife and I retired, but I have had my home here for some time. It should be great if it ever stops raining.
Jolleys, green and day were indeed at St Christopher's when I was there, as was Miss Thornton, she took me for geography I thought she was ok. |
Re: St Christopher's
I heard Mrs Thornton died fairly recently. However, Mr Jolleys is supposedly still alive!!!
Isnīt this weather awful....never stopped raining (with the driving wind too) since mid-December. I reckon we will all develop webbed-feet soon, if this wet weather doesnīt stop soon. Oh well, roll on summertime...... |
