Cor! Cashman that's some coincidences there old son, Kevin I know is well and kicking, still as daft as a brush though. May I ask what do the initials at the end of your message mean. Am afraid I'm not computer/text speak literate my dear. Thanks again for your input it is appreciated regards Old Saintonian.

I think you will find that Mark Battersby is registered as a member on here under his name. He posted for a while, then disappeared. Could try a p.m., might waken him up again. :)

Was talking to Steven Briggs's mother in the park few weeks ago ... know he is OK ... but darned if I can remember where he is. Think not living locally, or even in this country, but can't be sure. She still lives on John Street.

Old Saintonian 30-08-2009 11:17

Re: Looking for Janet McCarthy ? amongst others.

Thanks very much indeed, for your information. I do believe Steven moved abroad a few years ago when he sold up his snooker/pool business I am led to believe, it's good to know he's well and enjoying life in the sand, sea and sun no doubt, and that his parents are still around. By the way thanks Cashman for your replies most appreciated, as you can no doubt see my computer literacy is of a very poor standard, but I just manage to get by. Re. the Johnsons on Devonshire Drive, I believe they had a son called Harold unfortunately no relation but I do recall him being a bit of a bruiser, if you know what I mean. It's really great of you all to post any memories of All Saints it really does bring back the good old days when responsibilities were not even in the vocabulary, keep any info coming I'll try to respond but as I say my skills on the Beast are limited. Regarsds All Old Saintonian !!!!!!!

When Mark Battersby joined the forum I pointed out to him that I was a bridesmaid at his mum and dad's wedding.
We exchanged PMs and phone calls, but I didn't keep a record of his number and the PM is long ago delelted - sorry.
I do recall that he is local

Doesn't seem to be jogging many memory cells, keep trying, a bit like my school report, could do better.

Old Saintonian 15-11-2009 11:17

Re: Looking for Janet McCarthy ? amongst others.

I'll keep rattling those memory cells. Teachers at All Saints Mr. Bradshaw headmaster Mr Vernon. However my favorite was Mr. Kennedy, who left to be replaced by Mr. Vernon. Mr. Kennedy took us everywhere for football. Our home games were played on the top pitch at the woodlands, remember that old cow trough outside the changing shed where we cleaned our boots and ourselves sometimes, happy days what! In later years they acquired land adjacent to the school and made a footy pitch by the side of the vicarage, just above the air raid shelters now that could jog some memory cells. I do know other teachers however lets' have some of your input if you are interested? Old Saintonian !!!!!!!

Well they say no news is good news, not too sure about that in this case still we will persevere. Here's one for all you Claytonians, Which was the best chippie in Clayton in the 60's/70's my favorite was the one on Whalley Road near the cop shop great peas think they cooked them wih a ham shank for flavour, the fish wasn't big but very tasty batter and fresh of course. The others I recall were the one in Milton Street, Barnes Square and I think there may have been one in Lower Barnes Street, then there was Chan's of course Friday night out the Albion up to Chans for deep fried mushrooms happy days or what ??? Anyhow which is your favorite ? Old Saintonian regards to you all and keep looking for dear Janet Eh !!!!!!!

not being a clayton geezer, chans was always mine from 63- 69 ish, after a top friday night in the albion,:D

Old Saintonian 13-12-2009 06:36

Re: Looking for Janet McCarthy ? amongst others.

Obviously chippies not our strong point, however this could be more seasonal. There used to be a pub crawl I occassionally did fror fun, start at The Hyndburn, up to The Royal Oak on Sparth Road, then on to The Forts Arms, up the road to The Village Blacksmith, bit of a trek next up Grange streeet jiggle about a bit to The Castle, come across to The Old England Forever. up to The Wellington, then head across to The Lamb followed by The Oddfellows Arms, up to The Albion, then The Volunteer next The Commercial, The Hare and Hounds then beckoned acrosss the Traffic lights to The Load of Mischief finally up the road to The Greyhound, not a bad pub crawl eh! What a memory what !!!! Now if I was particularly thirsty I may also pop into Park View working mans' club near The Village Blacksmith, or even the good old Come and Welcome in Moor Street, there was always the Conxervative Club if climbing up that hill to the canal bridge took its' toll, then if we found the walk to the Greyhound too much the Top Club came into play. How amny of those are still going? and how on earth did they all manage to exist in a small village like Clayton, truly amazing, happy days though they will never return. God bless happy memories Old Saintonian, only eleven days left you lucky people !!!!!!! P.S Keep on the lookout for that elusive Janet McCarthy PLEASE !!!!!!!

Hi all, thanks for your efforts as I say. Well managed to trace Chris Bracewell seems he's an Architect in Blackburn, however he's dropped of the radar, as he's changed jobs and gone to Qatar to do some designining out there, pehaps he's making sand castles. Interestingly enough he designed the stand at the Crown ground where Stanley play, perhaps he'll model the world cup final stadium in 2022 on the crown, now that would be fun. Still no trace of Janet McCarthy though, now come on you can do it? Thanks again Old Saintonian.

Janet McCarthy is proving difficult to find.
Can anyone say where she was born and when?

There is a JM born in Darwen in 1951 - which may tie in with the photo date.

As I always say, thanks Bill for your efforts in attempting to trace Janet. and as you point out she is proving most illusive to find, however perseverance must surely pay off some day. A few of the old class are popping up, unfortunately one or two are no longer with us but time does move on. Well all lets 'keep em peeled' as Shaw Taylor used to say, good hunting god bless you all May I wish one and all a happy healthy and prosperous New Year. You know it makes sense Old Saintonian !!!!!!!

Happy New Year again all, well Janet really is proving illusive possibly more so than the Roe family who lived down the road from me in Barnes street. Come on keep em peeled perhaps dear Janet will turn up as Lobby Lud, remember him folks. Best wishes all. Old Saintonian.

I remember Lobby Lud:D Hate to mention it, but I think you mean "elusive";) But "illusive" works well in a more metaphorical sense.

Oh, bon annee to you too:)

And the name "Roe' still seems to be tickling away at my memory. From Lower Barnes St. I can remember David Bartram and Raymond Pye ... but there must have been more. Carol Greenwood? maybe ... it's gettin' to be a coon's age ago, ain't it:o?
