So I'm a busybody am I? So if I start a thread about breaking into your house and stealing your stuff that would be OK? What other illegal stuff shall we start organising? Fancy a Bank Job? We talk about community and looking out for our neighbours yet here you are looking at ripping someone off. You say I won't lose money. How do you know whether I have shares in Microsoft? By ripping off games you affect the profits of companies. This has an effect on share price which affects any holdings I and others have. Then there are pensions etc. They also rely on share price so you are affecting my financial standing in my old age. Short sighted view of effect is an easy way to justify something. Look at it end to end and its a different picture. So thank you very much but it is as much my business as anyone elses. |

On the issue of copyright theft, consoles specific, the majority of console manufacturers only recieve a small amount of the game profits (licensing to use their format), they make far more in sales of units, they are only under pressure from the software houses to make their consoles more "hack proof"
Back in the nineties EIDOS the makers of tomb raider issued a statement saying they wasnt going to bother with any form of encryption on their latest tomb raider game , reason being why spend tens of thoudands on something that would be cracked within 3 days of release. if somebody wants to nick summat, they nick it, and if somebody wants to crack summat they`ll crack it fact of life and to compare household burgalry to copyright theft is ludricous I have yet to see some little old lady M$ shareholder scared to re-enter her home that she as lived in for years because someone copied her XP disc Get a grip |

I'm confused. OK I admit I know nothing at all about games and haven't a clue what an X box is but when I read the first post I thought somebody was simply wanting to purchase a second hand thingy to play games on, along with the games to play on it.
I've obviously missed something because I don't understand how that can be illegal. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not arguing that I think it is legal. I would just like somebody to help me out of my ignorance here. F'rinstance. If I have an old PC with Windows 98 and some other stuff on it and I get a new PC with better windows and better stuff is there a problem with me selling the old PC to somebody else? What is the difference between me still using it in my house and somebody else using it in their house? I can see a difference between that and me copying software from my PC onto a disc and selling that to somebody else. I can see why entwisi would be dischuffed at that. |

P.S. He is perfectly correct that a site can be closed down for encouraging infringement of copyright though. There was a "ProBoards" message board where people were discussing the benefits or otherwise of different P2P and when that was spotted...........
It was gone! Not just the thread, the whole site was deleted. |

I dont think anyone here wants an all out pirate area where everyones trading stolen or copied stuff... it was a simple request for an xbox with copied games on it.. that in itself isn't illegal As far as I know You being a bigger drama queen than he is.. but at least he knew what he was talking about... No way is accyweb in danger of being shut down because i asked for a dodgy xbox... for crying out loud... as the man said... get real.. |

oh and BTW ... cheapo 160gig HD and a bog standard xbox and a bloke who knows a bloke.. whole thing sorted for less than 150.... so nagh nagh and thank you and good night.... :)

Get down off your high horse for a minute please KIPAX. There really wasn't any need for that sort of attitude.
I was simply asking what was different between what you'd asked for and someone for example selling an old PC complete with software (would that be a problem in their view), or indeed Mummiboo's ad for an Xbox she wanted to sell. I wasn't criticising your ad - I was simply asking if someone could explain to me what there was to object to, which you have now done and for which I thank you. :) Quote:
