shopping in Accrington
If you could choose a new shop/store for Accrington, which would YOU choose.
I would choose ..... DEBENHAMS |
Re: Eastgate
anything would do me just not the repetitive dross we usually get.
|
Re: Eastgate
A Debenhams would last about a month in Accy before it either went bust or was emptied by the thieving scum of the town.I personally would like a TK Maxx/H&M or Primark.

Re: Eastgate
If there is one shop we need in Accy, it is a decent independent bookshop, or failing that a Waterstones or a Books etc. The presence of good bookshops in any town is the finest indicator of the intellectual capital and the civil gravitas of its population. The absence of such an establishment in Accy speaks volumes (excuse the pun) for the present-day state of our town. No books, but lots of tat knocked out at a quid. Quite simply, a disgrace.

Re: Eastgate
You hit the nail on the head there Tea;there is no good bookshop in Accrington because the majority of the population would not use it!It's a sad fact of life here;even the Library is nowhere as busy as it was and has now converted book shelf space into a "reading zone".That's probably to disguise the amount of books that have "wandered off"!:(

Re: Eastgate
There used to be a really good bookshop but it wasn't used enough so decided to bail out. I agree I would love a good bookshop, I can spend literally hours in Waterstone's in Manchester when I go over there. We just need someone with a bit of vision to open something like the cafe/bookshops or internet/bookshops like they have in other places.

Re: Eastgate
I agree a good book shop would be great, hate to say it but I dont shop in Accy very much anymore unless I only want a card, paper or cheap bit of tat, there are some decent shops but I dont think it'll be long before they've gone. Recently tried buying all fresh fruit & veg from the market etc but it didn't keep long enough and wasn't good quality overall also more expensive.

Re: Eastgate
I really used to like Wardleworths when we had it and not just for books but they were great for stationery and artist equipment too. Of course my favourite thing about the shop was the fact that if they didn't have what you wanted they would order it for you. If it was in print - Wardleworths would get it for you. Sad reflection upon the state of things these days that such shops are now so few and far between.
I also wouldn't object to a PC World in town. |
Re: Eastgate
we dont need a book shop when amazon is so much cheaper
sorry but unless a shop can match internet prices they are buggered brfore they open the doors we could however do with a toys R us at my kids birthdays and xmas i always have to go out of town because woolworths has limited toy stock and agros never has anything in stock or fails to deliver what you order Quote:
their pcs are made from the cheapest inferior parts available ( motherboards are the biggest joke simply upgrading the motherboard can greatly increase pc speed and stability) repair center is more likely to break your pc rather than fix it ( their idea of a repair precoedure is to set your pc to factory settings) disgustingly over priced - once needed a power connector on a bank holiday and was charged £8 for an item sold for £1 in most pc shops ( i needed it urgent or wouldnt have paid that amount) honest willow the next time you need somthing for your pc check out alternatives like scan.co.uk and dabs.co.uk a lot cheaper , a better choice of brands and scan will even build you a pc to your specifications i swear i once saw one of pc worlds technicians about to clean out a pci slot using a metal screwdriver with the pc running but was stopped by his co-worker kinda ruined my fun coz i wanted to see it go boom and watch them explain what they had done to the poor customer who was watching lol edit: yup i got a bee up my ass about pc world they take advanyage of average joe who dosnt have pc knowledge and put their prices accordingly if you were to buy a £300 graphics card from pc world they will offer to install it for you for £15 ( the last time i checked its probably a lot more now) £15 gets you 2 case screws removed , 1 screw holding the grapghics card , insertion of the grapghics card and the putting back of the 3 fore mentiond screws what a bargain £15 for 5 mins work just my opinion of course i dont want sueing for slander lol |
Re: Eastgate
I bought my pc from pc world two years ago, and have not had any problems with it. So i can't complain.

Re: Eastgate
I don't buy hardware there chav. It's for paper and labels and stuff like that.
I love the blank look on some of their faces when you ask them something complicated. ;) |

Re: Eastgate
For me itt would have to be a decent bookshop, Bodyshop or a much bigger Boots then we've got now.
|
Re: Eastgate
I really miss Wardleworths........they were excellent if you wanted text books or anything like that.
Seed and Gabbutts in Blackburn was another good shop for both books and artists supplies.......but that went the same way as Wardleworths. It is Ok getting something off Amazon......but sometimes you need to look at the book to decide whether it is what you really want. I could spend hours in those two shops. |
