Geldof - Stick your Live 8 up your *!##+^ '~£

I see that scruffy, foul-mouthed irish multi-millionaire has been on the telly again to publicise the latest poverty scam This time, he & his fellow "musicians", worth a couple of billion between them, will be asking us to empty our pockets in return for a couple of hours of listening to their infernal din. All proceeds, as usual, to the starving babies of Africa or some similar "good cause."

Yeah. What happened to the dosh raised for Ethiopia 20 years ago? Did it make any long-term difference? And look what happened to the Tsumai appeal. Of the £400m raised in the UK, less than £20m has gone into the front-line. In the case of Sri Lanka, practically nowt. However, there's an awful lot of advertisments in the Guardian for Charity fund raisers, Aid Co-ordinators and all the other non-jobs associated with this third world scam

But not only that; it appears that this time they will be encouraging the great unwashed to invade Scotland, with the aim of disrupting the G8 conference. Their objective? More debt write offs, More Aid, Higher taxes...all to prop up a motley selection of rotten African tin-pot regimes.

Well, Geldof and Chancellor Brown, you won't be getting a penny out of me.

Apparently the single released to accompany the event will be a cover version of that old classic "I am holier than thou" - Pass the sick bag Alice!

Or even Sundays from what I can gather Garinda. I agree, Sir, but still scruffy.

Different Alice, alas! I alluded to the Alice reffered to by Sir John Junor.

Ok, let you off. Thought you might have meant Alice B. Tolkas [and Gertrude Stein?]

Come to think of it they could be me and thee!

Life has taught me to be wary of women in sensible shoes. But we digress.

I am sure that dear gertrude would have taken great pleasure in eviscerating Saint Geldoff, had she still been alive.

Oh well, A-B, you would give me a wide berth then.......I only ever wear sensible shoes.

A good bed...... and good shoes, because if you're not in one you're in the other.

I'm in neither at the moment.

And I will be avoiding the concert (if that's what it's called) like the plague.

When is it? Let's hope it's warm enough for a barbie!

Not really Margaret, it's a euphemism used by Robin Williams in the film "Good Morning America". The novelist Jeanette Winterson may be described as a Woman in Sensible Shoes. Whereas, although you may wear shoes that could be defined as sensible you are, self-evidently, not a Woman in Sensible Shoes. Unless there is something that you are not telling us?????

Oh.......all becomes clear to me now........and No, I'm not a Woman in Sensible Shoes.

As you can plainly see.......I don't get out much.

I won't be frequenting this nonsense of a concert, nor will I be buying any music that is featured in such a concert.

What do these countries do with the money.......buy guns and weapons.

It is all very well trying to tug at our heartstrings by showing us the fly blown sickly babies, but we need to sort our own poor and homeless first.

I think I may have a touch of charity fatigue.

well i was going to ask why they needed so much money sending over there because the N.H.S is flooded with them over here

why not have a charity concert for the NHS instead that way you will treat most of africas population and many other countries too

hell we may even be able to start treating our own citizens a little faster

I have agree that Africa is something of a bottomless pit when it comes to foreign aid. I can remember being constantly pestered to donate my spending money for "Black Babies in Africa" and that was nearly forty five years ago. While it is true that the Empire and British companies made an awfull lot of money from Africa, it is also true that it and they spent an awfull lot more governing and "improving" it, to say nothing of the countless millions that have poured in since 1947. And the result? A continent which, as far as I can see, seems hell bent on its own destruction.

It is a standard socialist belief that if you chuck enough money at a problem a solution will eventually emerge. Very socialist - and very wrong and one that in Africa has lead to unspeakable misery for countless millions.

What the solution to Africa's problems is, I do not know. But I do know it does not lie in yet more handouts, nor does it lie with a bunch of tired old has-beens desperately trying to hang on to their relevance.
