This is a view from my bedroom window, the wagon is full of bin bags over flowing with rubbish. It has been there for the last few weeks.

As they are in a truck HBC will say they are private property. I shall be out and about with my camera seeing what I can see, it isn't usually difficult. There's already a nice collection been blown into my garden which now according to HBC is mine!

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

If it was a rare and expensive artefact it would belong to HBC.

As its rubbish you can keep it!

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

I was over on Saturday and did a little shopping in the town. I was disappointed at the amount of rubbish on the streets including fag ends and chewing gun stuck all over the pavements. Sweet wrappers and bags disregarded after people eating there pies and sandwiches blowing about the place. I know what you intended was on a greater scale, but I spent hours looking at the surviving architecture and buildings around Accrington and I was convinced that with a bit of care and attention people would want to come and visit the place, it really does have something to offer…..I think that what your trying to achieve Mick is worth while and a credit to the community. Maybe once a month you can get the Observer or HBC to publish the photos that members have taken and name and shame the offenders.

 as i read the threads the other about rubbish i wonder what the council is doing.today i have driven down a road in acrrington close to two schools{one which is closed**and passed the van in thee above picture by janet i sympathise with you as that van is piled high with bags during the nice summer nights when we do get them it must be really nice having your windows open.
i have two suggestions contact the environmental health dept they may get the ball rolling.
or failing that i have a box of matches you could borrow.that is a disgrace to the community
:s_sick: :s_fmad:

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

I see that the BBC website is running a little competition at the moment inviting people to send in 'Photographs of Britain'. It seems to me that it would be a good idea to send in piccys of all the rubbish dumped around Accy. You never know....If enough locals do it, the BBC could end up sending an investigative camera crew round...now that would embarrass Britcliff and HBC.

Here's the link with the info:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/apictureof...petition.shtml

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

Thanks Tealeaf. That's not a bad idea.

Tealeaf 16-06-2005 12:57

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

Although I say it myself, I think it's a very good idea. No matter how many similar threads we run here on the rubbish problem in Accy, the simple fact is that it makes no difference whatsoever to the people in the Town Hall. The only thing that would make those wastrels sit up and do something would be if they were 'named and shamed' by an authority such as the BBC.

I think it would need only half a dozen people to send in piccys to the BBC website, clearly identifing Accrington, street and time and date, for someone to notice. It's worth a shot...I think we've already got a photographic libary of various rubbish piles over the last few years, so it may not even be neccessary to get out of the house.

I thought you could not put extra bin bags out ? these pics taken at the back of Persia street this morning 17/06/05 at 7am.
The bin men are due today i will just see if they take them all !

lettie 17-06-2005 09:21

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

If they do take them Mick, please let us know. I'm sure that many people who do have extra rubbish will be interseted to know that the bin bags are collected from some areas of town and not others.

Well the bin men came round at 1-30pm and by 1-45pm this is what was left.................not 1 bin bag they had taken them all

If you look close at 1 of the pics they have left a glass vase on top of the bin unbroken too hehe Arnt our binmen great

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

I notice that there's rubbish spilled on the ground. Why on earth can't they pick that up?

Mick 17-06-2005 13:27

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

Willow there is a road sweeper van comes down the back behind the binmen an hour or so later so it will be nice and clean soon.
And at least they take the bin bags away round here

the bin men are told not to take plastic bags but it looks like some of the bin men have pride in their work and wont leave a mess

good on those binmen that defy their boss

jimmi5bellies 17-06-2005 13:43

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

Depending on what mood our bin men are in, they sometimes forget to empty mine. Happened a few times and had to ring up for a re-collection. The other week i put an extra black bin liner out with folded up card-board boxes in. They refused to take it, so i reported them and they took it on the next collection.

Thats absolutely disgusting mick. Accrington and Hyndburn should be ashamed.

WillowTheWhisp 20-06-2005 07:40

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

That lot is appalling. I know the council's attitude is that if they remove it then people will think it doesn't matter what they dump or where because it will be removed but surly they owe it to the residents to do something about that lot and then try to find out who is responsible and do something about them.

I'm dumbstruck. My flabber has never been to ghasted. I took my camera out with me to photograph an eyesore which I've been moaning about for weeks, nay months ......... and it's gone!

Re: Rubbish round Accrington

It is now the 24/6 and the truck is still here, no notice has been put on, so i assume no one from the council has yet been to see the stinking mess.It is now eight days since i reported it.Maybe councillor Jones could get it sorted.
