Full Big Moon
1 Attachment(s)
its ays on the news...............
Britain will tonight be treated to a spectacular show when the full moon will appear bigger to the naked eye than it has done for a few years! The moon should give the illusion of a massive glowing sphere when it rises above the horizon shortly after 10.30 pm Astronomers said the illusion would be caused partly due to the recent passing of the summer solstice. The Moon is at its lowest point in the sky and the Sun is at its highest. This factor has been boosted by the Moon being at a particular point in a 18.6-year cycle of "tilted" orbits around the Earth. But scientists are quick to point out that the show is merely an optical illusion. I for one will have to see that :camera8: |

Re: Full Big Moon
A few years ago I was driving home from work and I saw the moon and it looked absolutely huge......and it was very yellow........it would be around September time because I remember thinking 'I wonder if that's what they call a harvest moon'........It looked close enough to touch.
|
Re: Full Big Moon
I can't see it! I think all the houses are in the way. :(
I remember years ago seeing it huge and looking close enough to touch. It was a heck of a long time ago because I think I was about 10 or 11 at the time. Anybody take any photos tonight? |

Re: Full Big Moon
I have to be honest and say that I never noticed anything. We were driving back from Bolton at about 10.45 pm and the sky looked beautiful, but no sign of the moon anywhere..
|
Re: Full Big Moon
I caught a quick look at it, by the time I had spotted it it had gone behind some trees but from what I saw it was big and looked like it was glowing blue round the edges (or was that my eyes).
