i thought CB's were just for taxis these days lol

mobile phones kinda killed them off i think plus the expansion of the internet in the past 10 years

My dad used to be a CB addict......he would have loved the improvements in communication technology...sadly he died 13 years ago.

He was a Radio Amateur and had cards from all over the world...he would stay up till the early hours of the morning so that he could talk to people in Oz. The internet would have been wonderful to him.

I had one in the mid eighties it was great, I made many great friends some I still see. When I put my dipole up my then next door neighbor said he was getting interference on his tele so I went out and bought him a box to filter it out. As it happened I didn't use my CB that night but said neighbour was at my door the next morning again saying I was still interfering with his tele. I was really fed up of the abuse and whinging by this point so late that night I took the dipole down & laid it across my lounge floor. Next morning He was back again with the same complaint The look on his face was a picture when I showed him my aerial on the floor. it turned out he had just got his first video recorder and was watching second hand tapes that had little lines running through it now & again. I used a car aerial in the loft after that so he didn't know I still had one, & he never complained about interference ever again.

My Mum and Dad (Baker and Ma Baker) were mad on CB's when we were growing up and they met a lot of crazy friends through it :D I still love listening to some of the tales my Mum tells about the 'good old CB days'!

My Dad had a massive kingfisher arial in the garden, never remember anyone complaining about interference, I'll have to ask my Mum ?

I used to use the CB radio, still have it and go on now and again (If I can be bothered putting it in the car). I did use it at home, but my antron99 blew down though and I haven't replaced it since!

NOTE: Do not hang England flags from antron99's, they fall down!

Whenever I have been on, it's just idiots playing music or drunks these days. Met a couple of now good friends off the CB though years back. We used to go 'cruising' and meeting others, was a pretty good laugh!

I'm still into my radio scanners and luckily my scanner aerial has not blown over, not bad considering it's around 10+ years old and been moved to 3 homes (My mams, dads and then my own over the years).

Anyhow, may get a CB aerial put back up though, it will be handy for the business.

I used to have a CB in the early 80’s; my handle was Rockin Robin, from Hanky town. I also had a DX call sign and it was Lema Delta 24.Hehe I spent many hours calling CQ CQ CQ-DX and after all that I made very few contacts, I think I still Have a couple of QSL cards somewhere, cards that other stations had sent me.
We used to have our eyeballs at the lidgett GT Harwood and eyeballs at Smokey’s back door (Green Club GT Harwood behind the police station).
Things change thou when it became legal, the air waves became clogged with kids, bucket mouthing and keying over other stations as well as playing music like Neal said.
A friend of mine who was a Ham operator from the early 60’s said why you don’t get your self an amateur radio licence, so I sat the RAE 1983 and got myself one.
I haven’t bothered with radio for some time now but I still hold my licence. My then shack is now a complete tip. Click on the link below to see some images of my then shack. Hehe
All good fun. :)

Nice one. You never know we may have met at some point. The lidgett got so busy with the eyeballs that they had to change venue. They moved to the Green Bowling Club for its eyeballs because it had a much bigger room and I think around that time everyone formed a Club called “The Hyndburn Breakers Club” but not too sure, was a long time ago.

On the Aunty Mary I was called Rubber Band ( Novice User )
When I tried to change it People just insisted it was Rubber Band.
When we change to F.M it became Raven Top.

I don't think I was going out with anyone at the time, I was only 16/17. I'm trying to remember the handles of some of our friends but I'm having some difficulty. Grego will probably remember some of them.:D

I recognize both handles Snow White and Ragdoll but not to sure who they where. I’m almost 90% sure that Snow White lived somewhere near me, here on James St. I think it was about 10 doors away. If it’s the one that I’m thinking of she also at some point moved from James St [with her family] to an old folks home at the top end of Harwood, I don’t know why, work presumably [or was that Silver Fox?]. Oh dear can’t be sure, was a long time ago. hehe
