Tree Murders!!

Does anyone know anything regarding cutting trees down? I have two beautiful big sycamore trees at the back of my garden that cause the wingeing neighbours to tell me to put a copper nail in them to kill because leafs fall in their gardens in Autumn ........... :( DUH that's what trees do and these trees are probably older than all the neighbours!!

When I came home yesterday one of these said neighbours has cut down a young but established Horsechestnut that borders my property ............ and I mean chopped it down not just cut it back .......... I am so mad I'm spitting  I get on well with my neighbours and don't want to fall out with them (but I will if need be I'm so mad) I just want to get some facts before I go and have a 'polite' word with them!

Do you want to borrow a baseball bat?

Failing that I am sure I could knock up a piece of wood with nails sticking out of it...!

Does wood from a horsechestnut tree make a good baseball bat? :D

Tell your neighbours to p*ss off. The only valid complaints they may have against you and your trees are that a) your trees are unsafe and b) your trees are doing a Leyandi and blocking natural light into their property. If neither of these apply, then what you do with your trees is none of their buisness.

Here you go honey............have a read and clam yourself down. There’s plenty of time to get even. Now very calmly get you digital camera and take as many pictures you can of the damage that’s been done. Take record shots of your trees just in case they attack them……Also have a look at your photo collection of the garden to see if you have any of the murdered Horse chestnut.

I'm sure I have been told that you can get a preservation order put on tree's.
Someone told me anyone can do this, with any tree that proves to be a influential part of that persons life. I might be wrong or have listened to some ol' billy bull!!!!

Just a thought though tinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Tree Murders!!

Remember trees have souls of a kind……….Cut it into manageable lengths and stack it carefully in a cross over pattern about five or six inches apart so that the air can pass through it. This is a drying process called seasoning. Once your horse chestnut is seasoned “dried” get your other half to get his tools out and between you build a sculpture of anything you like and position it directly in line of the offending neighbours view. This will not only serve to make them Jealous over your wonderful sculpture but serve as a warning if they touch anything else……..Alternatively wait until November the fifth the rest I leave to your imagination.

I think I'm going to have to look into something like that Slink because I think it was the same neighbour that made me move my fir trees saying that the roots would make his wall unstable, which ended up killing them off too! The chestnut wasn't even bordering his property!! You might have noticed it when we've been in my garden it was in the corner that borders mine, Dions and Simons

He's really p***ed me off this time  I thought my trees were safe when Fred moved!

[QUOTE=Tinkerbelle]I think I'm going to have to look into something like that.

Ring the Town Hall or wherever HBC are these days and ask them if any of the trees in your area are protected already?

Re: Tree Murders!!

:flamethro just a suggestion hehehe :behead:

however if tree/s on ur land they can trim overhanging branches but have to make sure that the tree IS NOT DAMAGED or OPEN TO INFECTION

BUT you need to check with HBC and the tree warden just to make sure :uzi:

For murdering a tree, being bound over to keep the peace and about 500 quid fine for criminal “Wilful” Damage…you’d do about ten years………….

Its a nice thought to be a tree hugger but have you thought how many trees were on the property before the house/estate was built and what happened to them.

Yes it was Chris and Simon  The silly owd ****** said he hadn't realised what it was. He thought it was root growth from the scyamores (DUH ....... they have different leaves) and apologised saying he likes the trees as much as me and it would have been left to flourish had he known ......... What else could I say :o I have took photos incase of anything else but I've put one on of the poor horsechestnut ........... my anger has just turned to dismay now :( !

Leave the stump in Tinks….you might get some new growth from that……Is it in your garden or is it on the field side? If it’s in the Garden its aggravated vandalism and trespass, if it’s on the field side aggravated vandalism of public property…

sorry to hear about your trees tinks!a neighbour is aloud to trim branches that hang over there garden on condition they throw them back over to your property, but if they have been over onto your property to kill the tree, you can get them done for tresspass and willful damage.

have you not been in touch with accywebs special branch yet?.....(TWIG).........:D

His reason for being in my garden (whilst I was out with my Dad may i add) was apparently to trim overhanging branches from the sycamores and he thought he was doing us a favour by chopping 'what he thought' was roots expanding from the sycamores .......

oh my giddy ants. Just read this whole thread from start to finish and have gone through every emotion god gave me. But it's ended with once again regretting not going to the loo before going on the comp!!!

So cheers tinks!!!! hmph!

Seriously though it's a difficult situation cos you don't wanna fall out with them over a tree cos in life there is nothing worse than having nightmare neighbours. But the flip side is why should the tree terminator get away with it?? Hey he doesn't have a prize winning rose bush does he?? Or a greenhouse as my two lads have a mean kick with a concrete football, lol

The Lumberjack Song

I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.
He's a lumberjack and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesday I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea.
He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch, he goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesday he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press flowers.
I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.
He cut downs trees, he skips and jumps, he likes to press flowers.
He puts on women's clothing? And hangs around in bars?

I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspendies and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear Papa.
He cuts down trees, he wears high heels? Suspendies and a bra?

Re: Tree Murders!!

Oh dear, sorry Tinks.:(

Like Staggers said a neighbour can only legally lop off any branches off your tree if they overhang your property, and they do have to offer them back to you, not throw them in your garden!

When I lived in London I had a sycamore tree in my garden. My neighbour had a fear of insects and thought my tree attracted them, even though none of it over hung their garden.

She called a tree surgeon and told me I could have it removed for a hundred pounds. I told her I liked the tree because it afforded my garden some privacy from the houses behind.

On returning from holiday I discovered the insect hating nutter had paid the tree surgeon herself and the tree had gone completely.

I won't write what I said to her, because the swearing censor would go into overload.

The only positive thing was I didn't have to spend ages weeding out the seedlings from the sycamore, sent spiralling out on it's little spinning jennys.

Re: Tree Murders!!

Send a bill for the clean up and the stress it caused. Or turn a blind eye and reach a compromise, the rose bush sugestion may feel good at the time but in the long run could make it worse. Getting on with neibourghs meens respect from both sides which in the case T "hooligan neighbour" desided to ignore negating the need for niceties. Go and get the bam and give him a bloutering (verbally mind).

Tinkerbelle 13-08-2005 17:39

Re: Tree Murders!!

I have decided to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident ..... stupid or soft :( ............. you decide? I saw him earlier and shouted over "killed any trees lately?" I just received rather a sheepish smile off him which makes me believe he's telling the truth .... this man isn't usually stuck for words ;) and what's done is done, complaing, shouting or screaming obscenities won't bring it back!

On an upside it has got me out of washing up ........ I've told the kids that I can't bare to look out the window while I'm washing up up at the spot were a once thriving tree was ....... they fell for it and have done the washing up :D I'm going to see how long I can milk it for now

Doug 13-08-2005 18:35

Re: Tree Murders!!

I’ll reserve judgement of the stupid bit, certainly soft and almost certainly a lazy little tinker making the kids do the washing up. Had a drive by late this afternoon, Could see all the trees along that side in their glory, a magnificent sight…..don’t be to trusting of him; you don’t want another accident with your sycamores........
