P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
I read a circular at work today from one of our unions. It stated that as from 2006 it would no longer be acceptable to refer to people as 'Old George' or 'Young Susan.'
It seems to be P.C. gone daft yet again. It warned managers that they would no longer be able to advertise for - 'young, vibrant people wanted,' and that the Commission for age equality would be coming down like a ton of bricks on anyone who did so. So I reckon that with the advent of this nonsense from the P.C. brigade they will be coming down like a ton of bricks on Accyweb............ Unless, of course........ Owd Bert changes his user name...:D |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
PC gone mad they are absolutly bonkers what comes of this it will not be Old Age Pension but Senior Pension young people will be Underdevelpoped people, Well you get my drift. Political Correctness should go its stupid, oops might not be able to say that to learning challanged :p

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
oh and don't forget Baby Boo etc with "age" related names will have to change.
Sometimes i wish i could use the language that is needed to show the PC lot how we as normal people and with no hang-ups about peoples race, religon, gender, sexual orination, colour, age, employment status, with or with-out criminal records can and do have a fun time and show people the respect that is required when it is needed to be used. |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Spherical! And in the plural! |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
when i was between the ages of 18-25 i worked with a 50 odd yr old bloke who used to call me "owd lad" every day and more than once a day, i found it quite amusing myself that an "owd" bloke could call me "owd" ,its just a term that he had grown up with and he used it as part of his everyday life, and not in the slightest bit was i offended in anyway, before too long we are going to need a whole new dictionary and learn a whole new vocabulary, its pathetic...:(

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Errrm, weren't the three attempts to establish such a commission via a private member's bill between 2000 and 2002 unsucessful and the bills either lapsed or were withdrawn?

blackpool =coloured person[/QUOTE] Aww Granny that is so un-pc. Loose ten points.:) |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
This commission for age equality may not go by that name A-B, but that is what it is. The circular that I read was by the Royal College of Midwives. I have to admit I peed myself laughing and gave it to one of the managers for a quick gander...:D

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Its just ridiculois isn't it, where will they draw the line, anyway as far as I'm concerned a blackboard will always be a blackboard, a Wendy house - a Wendy house etc
|
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Hey Grego have you not heard there are no blackboards around now..... only WHITE boards and I don't hear the PC brigade complaining about that!!!! In all honesty there are far more important things to care/worry about in this world than whether someone is using the "correct" language. I also think the PC brigade cause more racial disharmony, sex discrimination e.t.c. than they realise.

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Are nurses still banned from being over-familiar with patients? There was a furore a couple of years when some barm-pot complained a nurse at BRI called her 'cock'. She demanded an apology from the health authority. All the same these nurses, no respect. :)

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
I think the PC brigade cause more problems than they solve! They (who ever They are) dream up things that offend a small number of people, and then point out that by not saying someones Fat,thin, old, young, lasy, tall, short etc etc then they won't be!
Last year a council wanted to call Christmas "Winterfest" so as not to offend! and guess what it offended people! Is it possible not to offend ever?? I doubt it!!! |

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
The only thing with all this pc stuff is, it's going to make everyone into first class liars.I myself like to be truthful, at least you know where you are with that. A spade is a spade not a shovel.

Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
If you cannot call a spade a spade then what happens with a deck of cards?

Do you not remember when the title "old age pensioner" was dropped in favour of the term "Senior Citizen"? It reverted back after our pensioners refused to acknowledge their new P.C. name! After surviving two world wars they are proud to have reached a ripe old age and do not appreciate the P.C. Brigade taking away their rightful glory!:D |

How about "Blackpool = African-Englishpool then? You could also go to the off-license and order some African-Englishthorn Cider. If you took a trip up to Whitehaven you could tell people you were off to Caucasianhaven. Liverpool could become Offalpool (so as not to offend the kidneys in the world.) Manchester I guess would have to be Personchester. I suppose we should not say we are going 'down south to London' we should say we are going 'level south to London'. - down is a very negative word don't you think? What we are going to do about Wales I don't know, the sharks are going to be livid......... |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
As someone who is not that far off getting my State pension (wow, what generosity!) but intending to keep working - or need to keep working (Thanks, Equitable Life), I realise that to some people I am old, or at least elderly. Don't feel it though.
I remember being told at BRI that we shouldn't call patients 'Love', but most of them liked it and expected it. It does seem that the PC brigade feel that we are all walking wounded, weeping sores just waiting to be irritated - personally I am, but only by the PC brigade. Makes jobs for the boys, though, doesn't it - or is that a discriminatory remark? |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
If you want PC gone mad how about this from today's paper:
An arsonist has escaped an antisocial behaviour order that could have banned her from carrying a lighter or matches, because it would infringe her human right to smoke. Ormskirk magistrates barred her from having accelerants. Well done Ormskirk magistrates. |
Re: P.C. Gone mad Again!!!!!
Most of the silly pc name changes are daft.
Every six months though I have to go and see my neurologist at Queen's Park Hospital in the 'Old Peoples Health Centre.' At forty years of age, this is one name I would like a pc name makeover on. It would also stop my temper tantrums every time my appointmant comes through.;) |
