Re: no smiling...

Oh you should see my passport photo. I had to renew it in April and I knew about the "no smiling" so I went to Morrisons and used a photo booth.

My hair is grey, it has been since I was 30 (inherited from my dad), and I wear glasses. The photo is, as they nearly always are, over-exposed. Against the white background in the booth I look like I have no top to my head. My glasses (reactions lenses) are quite dark but have a bright spot in the middle of each lens. My non-smiling expression makes me look extremely depressed and there is a purple shadow on my neck that looks like someone has just tried to strangle me. This was the second attempt in the booth - the first lot were even worse. I looked at least 90 the first time, on the 2nd I just look 85.

Perhaps the worst thing about it all was, when I went to Malta in May none of the immigration officials turned a hair when they looked at the photo in my passport and I thought, "My God, do I really look like that?" :(

I didn't know you were ever allowed to smile on a passport photo! You mean to say that all my passport photos have been miserable all these years and they didn't have to be. lol

By the way, did you know that there are only two people who have had special dispensation to wear sunglasses on their passport photos. 100 ackers to the first person who can guess who they are.

No to Elton John, no to the Queen and Prince Charles. Don't think the Queen needs a passport, not sure if Prince Charles has one either.

Apparently it can be a 'restrained' smile (whatever that is!) and has something to do with fitting in with worldwide biometric scanning!!

No, it's not the Blairs, or any blind person.
