I am Lancashire born and bred but my late husband was a Yorkshireman. Oh yes, that bit of culture in Yorkshire - they've got this thing called the Huddersfield Choral Society, always having gigs with some bloke called Handle or something, obsessed with Christmas and Messiahs etc. It won't last! :rolleyes:

When I married my Yorkshireman I went to live in Langham, Rutland, because he was sering at RAF Cottesmore. Nobody there could hear anybody, then, because the place was full of Vulcan Bombers. :D

I was born in Whalley Lancashire lived in Accrington worked as aprentice toolmaker at Howard & bulloughs ,called up in 1944 , went to live at Marske by the sea Yorkshire ,after demobed lived in Yorkshire till 1956 , and emigrated to Canada Jan 1957, lived and worked in Brockville Ontario been retired for 20years:Banane25:

I live in a rural village right up in the Nrth corner of Cambs no one has ever heard of - Elm. There is a post office which seems to be closed quite often, i.e. lunchtime, all day Wed and Sat afternoon. They have some quick food i.e. l tin of bean, l packet of cigarettes etc. Actually I think that belongs to the next village, Fridaybridge. We are newcomers - people really don't want to know us - can't say I blame them but when you walk along the street, if you pass someone, they will always say hello. Can't get used to it - only pervs did that where we moved from. It is a brilliant change from where we moved from in West Sussex!

I had family moved to West Sussex, when they got fed up of the ignorance, and the cost, they came back, after a spell of 5 years in 1 house, my brother told me that he didn't even know his next door neighbours surname!

we live in West Sussex, its very friendly where we are, mind you there are only about 30 families, no shops, no street lights, no gas, no main drains, regular power cuts when the weather is bad, ibut we do have a Pub!!

I used to live in Peel Park Avenue overlooking the old Stanley Ground, now i live in Tavistock, Devon and boy do i wish i was back in the north.;)

Devon's nice for a holiday but the locals are so insincere and the tourists are ignorant.:mad:

But hey they all can't be Lanc's Folk, the salt of the earth.:D

If you have Google Earth and are interested, then you can find the Lat/Long at the bottom of the photo. Just feed that into GE and you will be taken on a Magic Carpet :-))

You aren't kidding Kate, long walk to anywhere, but once you have a driving loicence it is for life and if you lose that you can get a "sans permis" vehicle - 600cc max speed50 kph but they get you there. Even if you get banned you can still drive one of those - This is France after all - joie de vivre :-)))

I'm in Cambridgeshire (Fenland) but at one end of the road it says "You are entering Nelson's County" - this means you are in Norfolk and round the corner you are in Lincolnshire (Sutton Bridge or Tydd Gote). Find it quite peculiar but I am sure there is a logic to some of their names AND pronunciations somewhere i.e. MANEA is pronounced MANEE - how could anyone guess that!!!!!!!!!
