I would say quite a lot Spuggie. At lunchtime alone they would buy sandwiches, burgers, chips, etc or even go to the pub (if of course, they were old enough). Then what about buying that new dress or shirt for the weekend night out - best time to buy it is at lunchtime. You need a new book for your course, or simply for bedtime reading - when would you buy it.......... and so it goes on.

Your friends are from all different areas of East Lancashire but the one central place you have in common is where you go to college - so where is the best night out? You walk past the theatre, pub, sports hall every day that advertises events, so where are you most likely to spend your free time?

Some of the most thriving towns in the country are ones that cater for students.

If they were in Accy and Accy had the facilities there would be benifits for all. It would not be just educational either as to cater for students more businesses would be here = more jobs = more spending power = more money in the coffers.

Just found St Christopher's web site, they to realise the lack of A-level facilities and as has been posted previous hope to do something about it.

Mmmmm - I'm a little wary of these 'specialist' colleges, and not really sure they're a good idea. Everyschool wants to be a Technology College because that's what the most government money seems to be going to. So, it's in their interests to go for Technology status. As you've shown by the two sites you found that's two 'specialist technology' schools within a hop, skip and jump from each other. Are there any schools in Hyndburn going for the Arts or Humanities or even Business?

Plus, a discerning parent who wants the best for their child would want a specialist school in that child's chosen subjects. However, what child, at the age of 11, knows what will be their chosen subject? So parents could end up making the wrong choice for their child and ultimately damaging their future career.

I know these schools do cater for other subjects but their really nailing their colours to the mast by saying they are focusing on technology. It doesn't bode well for the less technologically minded, does it?

Also, it can separate friends at that age when you really need as many friends as you can get.

They might be successful in GCSE results but unless a town has a proper spread of 'specialist' colleges some pupils will undoubtedly suffer!

My sister is at St Christophers and they live across the road. The building which used to be Moorhead's Queens building has now been knocked down. They are hoping to use that site as a 6th form college for A level studies. At the moment a lot of our youngsters are going to Blackburn and Burnley in order to study for A levels. My sister is currently looking at St Mary's College in B'burn, it would be great for the town if they developed this site as a 6th form. I just hope that they don't sell it off and turn it into yet another housing estate.:D

It's what my sister and step mum have heard on the grapevine, they could share it with Moorhead and use the sports facilities from both schools..

That would depend on the schools agreeing to it and wether they could actually get the plan of the ground.

I would assume that the land is owned by LCC, if they wish to sell it to a developer then it could end up a housing estate. Then again if LCC keep it then it could end up a rubbish dump...:D
