Re: Broadway....dug up!

There was just the square around it when I was up, just the four pieces, now there are 6 at least looking at that pic. The ones with united utilities on the back are new.

Talking of pavements whatever happened to all those art students that used to do pavement art. Some of the artwork was very good, added interest to a boring shopping day in town.

I don't think any of them were actually art students. Certainly most of them in London are from Eastern Europe, where they are welcome to stay.

It's hard enough dodging uneven flagstones in Accy, without having to contend with Bulgarians sat on the floor chalking.:D

Re: Broadway....dug up!

According to the Observer.....HBC have served United Utilities with legal notice to make good the damage to the pavers in Broadway. PB is quoted as saying the work is a disgrace.....United Utilities have said that they will repair the paver and are just awaiting the specialist pavers....however if they don't repair the area to the original condition, HBC can get their own workers to do this and then reclaim the cost from UU.......I thought Tomz might be interested in this information.

I wonder if the posts to this thread might have influenced PB??????????????

Re: Broadway....dug up!

I did say that councils WILL NOT tollerate this from utility companies anymore, and that they have the power and will use that power to force them to make good.
Why should they get away with, I say thank you to HBC for not letting them.

That also explains the bariers going back up.

That has to be a shock to most considering council workers arnt famed for finesse.

Re: Broadway....dug up!

Spuggie, the council workers won't do the job unless UU fail to put right the bodged job......it is the responsibility of UU to make the work as close to the original condition as possible.

I see the dodgy work has been re-done now, cant tell it was ever dug up, just goes to show that it can be done if they try hard enough :-)

I have been absolutely fascinated by your pics Willow of "Modern Day' :) Broadway. If I was ever there in person I would probably think I was in another place. From my own perspective the first two pics were taken in 88 and the third was in a different time, place and planet. But they are my memories.:D

Some nice memories came flooding back of the first 2 (The Rumours) Terry sadley not old enough to have seen how it was in the third.

I think the picture people post are the best part of this forum, I wish I could get people to post them on ours. Those pictures mean such a lot to the people who can remember, and gives a place history to those who can't.

Re: Broadway....dug up!

The repair work was carried out by the original contractors;Morans, who have made a brilliant job of it.I would imagine the bill has gone to United Utilities!

Madhatter 18-04-2006 18:50

Re: Broadway....dug up!

More than likely UU have asked the council to get the original contractors to do it because they'd find it difficult to match the materials and to get the skilled workers to fit it.
At least it's all fixed up now and is perfect not a typical council job(it's ok it's better than it was)

Re: Broadway....dug up!

Now, you can hardly tell any work was needed under those pavers......much better.
