Re: Norman Kember
The most appaling aspect of this episode has been the BBC coverage given to his rescue . Most people in this country would not have cared twopence if this old fool had have had his head chopped up and fed to the dogs. Yet on the BBC we have had saturation coverage of everything from the rescue to the happy clappy sunday sevice at his local church, complete with grinning newscasters spouting off the BBC's own agenda on Iraq. Pathetic. Send Kember back & send the BBC back with him.

Re: Norman Kember
I cannot see the point in sending civilians into a war zone in the first place. Much is made of the fact that they are Christians, but hard line muslims do not recognise Christianity. Their belief is that anyone who is not a muslim is an infidel and therefore fair game. Since the kidnappers are usually extremists, those people setting out as 'peace mongers' (for want of a better expression) must know that they are easy targets. The simple answer is DON'T GO!!

Re: Norman Kember
The Canadians from this same religious group lost no time in thanking the military for their rescue and they didn't need any prompting.
The real hostage in this situation was Norman Kembers wife.....and he pointed this out. You don't find these religious organisations going out to Nigeria or Senegal.....it appears they only want to be where they will get the maximum publicity. |
Re: Norman Kember
He might have said thank you when they rescued him, just because the media and probably the chief army manager kinda guy ( ) wasnt there to hear it doesnt mean he didnt say thank you?
but then again if i was being rescued the first thing id do is want to get home and then say thank you in a big public ceremony. Not everyone is perfect english gentry when theyve been held hostage? (just my view please dont jump down my neck :o ) |
Re: Norman Kember
Maybe he did show his gratitude to the men who rescued him.....who knows?
But I would be telling everyone who would listen....at every opportunity I could.....after all the military has had quite a bit of bad press recently. He just seemed rather grudging with his praise.....and there may be good reasons that we don't know about. |
Re: Norman Kember
He was a fool to go in the first place. Being held hostage and then rescued obviously doesn't make him less of a fool.
