Big day for Gayle

Have I missed summat or is there not a thread wishing Gayle all the best.

Good luck Gayle, and may the best man win, or in this case 'woman' :)

Re: Big day for Gayle

I live in the ward Gayle is contesting. If it's down to hard work she deserves to win.

I've twice been asked if I've any problems, and what I'd like to see change, as well as three lots of literature that actually says something, as opposed to the the one daft leaflet from the Tories, that looked like a menu from a greasy spoon caf in Spain, and the one leaflet from the Lib Dem man.

I like Spuggie pm'd Gayle yesterday. But again, Good Luck

Tealeaf 04-05-2006 13:33

Re: Big day for Gayle

Unfortunatly, my vote rests in the capital, not St Andrew's ward or Church or even Hyndburn. Tonight, however I shall find out whether, like Nigel Evans, MP for Ribble Valley and thousands of others, my vote has been purloined by the Asian postal voting scam in the borough in which I reside .

Or then again I may just go down the pub. Because the simple fact is that local government elections are no more than an opinion poll on the current antics in Westminster. That means that an awful lot of talented people are simply not interested in lining up in party colours to serve their local communities as councillors. I really do not see how loyalty to any political party is the key to ensuring that the streets are swept and the bins are emptied on time. A combination of hard work, imagination and enthusiasm, and an honest acknowledgement of errors seem to me to be the order of the day.

However, those final qualities are the ones that Gayle apppears to pocess, so I will say - Good Luck Gayle! I hope you win!

I'd just got back home from voting when I received a telephone call from Neil, and I'm happy to report my vote has cancelled his out. We could have come to an arrangement, like they do with each other in parliament to cancel each other out, and have stayed at home, if only he could be trusted.;)

The polling station at Ossy Town Hall was quite busy.

Yes, I lost but I gave it a shot. At the end of the day what did I really lose? I stood up against the leader of the council and gave him a run for his money. I made a gain on him votes wise whereas everyone else lost votes so I guess that is a small consolation.

So sorry, Gayle, really thought at the end you had a chance there ... you still have your other interests though applying for these grants for the good of the community. Put those hats back in storage, but keep 'em safe, sure they will be taken out again in the not too distant future.

Would have been great fun though if you had, everybody would have been having a go at you on here and, unlike Britcliffe, know you would have responded. Can you imagine all the threads that would have been up for discussion xx

Well, like I said last night I gave it a shot. At the end of the day he got more votes than me and I can walk away from it!

But I would like to ask the question - what is it that he does that makes people want to vote for him? Come on Tories make yourself known and defend why he continually wins - you're obviously in the majority so you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

Over to you Neil!

I think it was unfortunate that you ran against Peter in your first election. If you had been up for one of the other 2 ward's in Oswaldtwistle I bet you would have won, after all Sandra Heyes lost her seat.
I remember saying to you either on thread or PM months ago something along the lines of "who wouldn't want the leader of the Council as their Ward Councillor if they had a problem that needed sorting out?". I am sure that other voters must think along those lines as well.
Have you noticed they have updated this page with the results since earier today? It now shows the turnout percentage. You had the highest turnout in Hyndburn. I cannot find any figures for the last time Peter was voted in. It would be really interesting to see if last night was a closer vote and higher turnout than the previous one in 2002 (I think it was 2002).

Gayle 05-05-2006 10:02

Re: Big day for Gayle

I don't care whether or not you're Peters friend or not. I don't even mind if you voted for him because I respect everybody's point of view if they have actually taken the time to go out and vote. All I'm asking is that people who voted for Peter actually stand up and say why!
