Re: Election results.
Here are the results from yesterday. At a quick glance it looks like power shifted around a bit in the wards but the Tories kept the same number of seats, 18, even if they are in different wards. Labour lost one seat and an Independant Councillor, Nicholas Collingridge, now sits in Clayton-le-Moors. Here in Oswaldtwistle we now have a Labour Councillor, Edwina McCormack, who knocked Sandra Heys of her Immanuel seat. Over in Rishton the Country's youngest Councillor, Claire Hamilton, can get back to what most young people do, clubbing and generally have fun because, she lost her Labour seat last night to Tory Jennet Liddle.

In then end the Rishton result says it all. 2000 votes cast, we should have lost it by 500. In the end we lost by 20 odd. We lost the postal vote (which went out to voters on the 26th ie Hewitt, Prescott, Clarke 10-1 votes in favour of the Tories and there were 400 postals cast). So the walk up vote was massively for Claire Hamilton. Rishton has got someone who does n't give a t*ss about Rishton and lost a very hard working popular Councillor. Like I said Neil, if you can see any sense in that result for Rishton then you are a screw loose mate. Gayle will make a great councillor (if she wants another go) and Claire will come back. What is sickening is we voted out 4 honest hard working ordinary people Gayle - Claire - Rob Kearney - Tim O'Kane and replaced them with people who are not interested in the ordinary person or working for them. No wonder Hyndburn is collapsing. (Exhange St, Princess St, Horne St, Clement St, Augusta St and even parts of Ossy are getting worse). Another 7 years of Tory rule and Hyndburn will be unrecogniseable from the once proud towns it knew. Sad night for the ordinary folk. A victory for easily influenced voter. |

Re: Election results.
Graham, my friend ;), I think you will find my above post very unbiased as I mentioned 3 seats that all changed hands to 3 different parties. I can not comment if Claire worked hard for Rishton but I did not say that she did not either. If you tell me that she worked hard for Rishton then I will take you on your word that she did.
That is the problem with Local Elections and politics in general. People tend to vote for the Political Party and not the person. Maybe if both Claire and Gayle had been batting for the other side, Hyndburn would now have 2 very good Councillors. I personally think, and have told her myself, that Gayle would be an excellent hard working Councillor. She was just running for the Party out of favour at the time. Thats just the way of politics. |
