kids penpals Help!!
:Banane10: If my daughter doesn't get out and meet some friends soon i'll go mad, or even someone her own age to talk to, so if any of you have children who would like to get in touch with her, pm me and i will sort it out, here's hoping x P.S she is 12. Going on 40
We might have to sort out some kind of verification. |
Re: kids penpals Help!!
My sister lives in France and has 4 kids, one is about that age, I'll email and see if she would like a pen(email)pal. That won't get her out and about though. What hobbies etc does she have, is there any clubs that she could join? What about things like Guides/Girls Brigade?

Re: kids penpals Help!!
Thanks guys. She doesn't seem to be able to connect to other people her age. She goes to a church club, but only likes it if theres not many people there. She's so lovely tho and its just not fair  She needs to toughen up in this harsh world. But i wouldn't want her to lose her qualities :)

Re: kids penpals Help!!
Just one thought Nell
Does she want to connect to others yet? When I was her age I was painfully shy. I knew about 3 people at school (and 2 of them were the fat lads in the class). I just didn't get on with people at that age. Yet I was quite happy in my own little world. (yes you lot sniggering at the back there, I know you think I'm still in my own little world!) I became the shy retiring bloke I am now when I went to Uni. I wouldn't push her too hard or it will become difficult for both of you and you may lose those qualities you like in her. We all are different, perhaps she just needs a bit longer or a particular event in her life to bring her out of her shell. |
Re: kids penpals Help!!
Your right about us all being different and it wouldn't be so bad if she was content to be a loner, but she's not. She's deeply unhappy about not having any friends. She's very much an individual and would never cowtow to her peers. She is content to not be popular, and to have lots of friends, but she would just like that someone who she could winge about me to, as it is,she's only got me, and you cant complain about your mother to her face! (well she wouldn't dare) I blame myself of course, who else is there?

Re: kids penpals Help!!
One thing that goes through my head was that whilst I didn't have many friends at home when we went on holiday camping I used to be happy to make friends with people there. Maybe it was because I knew they would only be around for 2 weeks that it made it somehow easier? I don't really know why I was like that.
Maybe starting her off with becoming friendly with people over MSN first where there is less of the pressure of meeting in real life. |

Re: kids penpals Help!!
I achieved that position years ago when i sang to her in asda. Thanks for your useful feedback. Maybe in a few years time when you've grown up a bit you'll have something useful to say and wont be so hung up on 'embarrassments'
