No it's not the same as Poundland's effect.
The Subways & Starbucks' of this world make our town look void of any particular presence, of any special worth.
Why go to a small Subway which won't fit enough people in and won't have an up-to-date menu (offers, promotions etc) when the Subway in Burnley is a half an hour bus ride away & offers people the proper version; not a miniaturised embarrasing effort.
Bad idea.

Yeh quite true also how many fast food shops does a town this size actually need??? surely not another.

Is it not time Broadway was renamed? Afterall, it's history goes back only to the 1930's when it was created as a throughfare between Blackburn Road and Whalley Road, with the sunken gardens on one side. It's name suggested it's purpose; with the Odeon cinema, perhaps it cheekily emulated it's New York namesake. Now, to use the trendy political euphemism, it is 'no longer fit for purpose'.

Surely a better name today would be "Charity Row" or "Pound Alley"....maybe even "Britcliffe's Folly". Whatever, the addition of a chain coffee or butty shop will only serve to further it's decline.

I have only had Subway food in Oz....never had any over here.
I agree that chain stores do make all shopping centres look alike....and I wish that Wardleworths was still here.......and YES......I DID buy my books there when it was in Accrington.
I prefer subway to KFC or Mc D's though.

All you'll need then is somwhere decent to eat.
Subway is worse than mcdonalds, all the fillings are prepack and certainly not as fresh as mc donalds food. Your being conned lol
And the bread isn't made fresh in store it's part bake.

No MH.....I tend not to eat in these establishments at all. I prefer to come home and make my own butty....and we only had Subway in Oz because we were too far from our apartment to go back. We were in Adelaide at the time and the Subway was in the Rundle Mall. I have to say it tasted just fine....now whether that was because I was out in the fresh air and was hungrier than normal I can't say.

Why? because you can't nip to Burnley and back in your lunch break.

Its a long way to go just for 1 buttie:)

It was nice, but the food poisoning afterwards wasn't so great :(

I had a Chicken and Bacon ranch yesterday in the Lytham subway (see places like lytham manage to have places like subway and still be a thriving town :p)

I prefer the meatballs I think :D
