Safe style uk??

How safe are they??

Now I remember a couple of month back watching watch dog, and safe style uk was on there. Can't say I watched avidly!! but enough to know I must not touch this company with a 2" stick. So today Ginger said " hey I have a quote for the back door to be fitted!!"............

i said " oh yeah who with ??"... he said " safe style uk ". Now remembering what I had heard off watchdog, I told him that I didn't really want to deal with this company. Ginger looking at me like I was a typical woman ( yeah what do you know )..............

So the fella turned up at 5pm. Very nice man. Came in and told us a quote for our back door. Then started to go into the cost of delivery, cost of building. cost of pee'ing to put it blunt.
So I gave Ginger the look of "I told you so"....so Ginger said to the fella " ok pal I will ring you, I want to get a few more quotes before I commit"........

The fella from safe style U.K stayed about another 30 minutes trying to convince us. Then he left when Ginger nearly threw him out. Only then after approx 15 mintes we had a phone call................." hello this is safe style UK................................"

I really dont think I will be going with this company. And they said the door will cost £3.000 but credit over 10 years will cost us £10.000???? hello I think I would pay outright.:(:(:(:(

get a quote from the double glazing place on oxford st near asda

i think they were quite cheap

mickmc 12-08-2006 08:03

Re: Safe style uk??

I agree with Mani on this one - I have a brick outkitchen and Sureframe on Oxford St nr Asda installed a bay window (with all the glass that that has), a small plain window, and an excellent 5 point locking door with a small diamond window in it - all double glazed for just over £1300 last year, excellent job, quickly done
All they ask is a deposit - they don't want paying there and then - boss says when we ordered it to come in some time week after and pay once we're happy with job

Re: Safe style uk??

speaking from experience do not give Safe Syle the time of day we would not p*** on them if they were on fire. Leave well alone. The only person who did his job properly was the salesman, much to our regret. Oh and some three or four years on we where still receivng phone calls from them, they seem to have stopped now after telling them our number is listed with TPS.and any more calls would be classed as harrasment.

So you fell for the 5 point locking bulls**t then. How many key holes does it have? One I would guess, so it has one point locking with 5 bolts, attack the one lock and all 5 bolts open.

Re: Safe style uk??

Well its a damn sight better tha th'owd wooden door I had before with 1 bolt.

Insurance chappy had a look and said excellent for level of security needed, plus alarm and motion activated light at rear

For security I would rather have a good wooden door and a British Standard mortice lock than a plastic door with "five point locking" anytime. Find the thread on plastic doors and you will know how easy they are to open. ( less than 2 minutes with hardly a sound )

mickmc 12-08-2006 10:56

Re: Safe style uk??

Thanks Neil - have read the articles - I stand corrected - but believe me that old backdoor was knackered - - new plastic is better - but as the article say - have flaws - will be investing in some of them sashjammers

Lokks like a lot of hard sell to me. Get the safest you can afford and from a reputible firm.

Madhatter 12-08-2006 13:59

Re: Safe style uk??

Listen to neil stay away from five point locking.
Here they gave just replaced 6 panel wooden doors, yes the panels are a weak point, but they had the big yale rim locks on them. They've been replaced with pvc with multipoint locking off one lock. I told my mate to refuse the new door based on advice here and off the net.
I'd say get a good solid wooden door and paint that white if you want it white, then fit a good mortice.
Are you sure it was 3000? Cant you buy one out of screwfix and fit it yourself

(NOT SO) SAFESTYLE UK

They are rubbish. I advise no-one to shop with them. We had our windows and doors fitted with them. Our 'safe'style door was torn apart by young robbing b*stards and we had our house burgled. So much for SAFE!!! The door was literally cut into and opened like a cat-flap.

Meh.. dont bother with them.

Re: Safe style uk??

My husband saw some close neibours of ours having some windows fitted by SafeStyle Uk, and we were thinking of having a new door fitted. I had heard nothing but bad stuff about this company and when I heard that he had made an appointment for a guy to call, I had a bit of a thrommer.
When the guy called, I told him that I had no intention of dealing with his company and i got a mouthful of Effing and Jeffing in return........I closed the door and rang the company but they weren't interested. A couple of weeks later it was in the Telegraph about these salesmen bad mouthing folk who didn't want to deal with them.

Re: Safe style uk??

funny this has appeared about safestyle as i have mentioned them in another thread about double glazing and how I physically threw the guy out of my house after he became aggresive towards my wife who said she wouldnt sign up...

Madhatter 12-08-2006 17:58

Re: Safe style uk??

I will say though that those council doors with a glass panel at the top and thin ply at the bottom are so useless it may as well not have a door, one lick and the panel is off. It only has little pins holding it in.

Re: Safe style uk??

my friend got involved with this company and they said they would ring to make an arrangement to coem and give a quote

they rang while he was out and the answer machine picked up the message

the sales person or whatever didnt realise he hadnt put the phone down properly and we heard him saying to quote words to the effect " this ones got their house paid for they can afford the lot at top whack "

teh next time they rang he mentioned this event and was immidiatley hung up on and never heard from them again

Ber999T 13-08-2006 11:53

Re: Safe style uk??

Safe Style have just rang to see if home visit still on and told them NO as at the moment we're not doing any changes to house. He sounded really upset LOL and then I put phone down.

Just hope they don't turn up on the off chance but if they do the answer will still be NO THANKS and please get off my property otherwise I'll call the Police!!!!!!

Thanks again to all who have posted on this item

Ber

Thanks for all your suggestions. Very much appreciated, and yes, I will be looking else where for a door. safe style uk tried too hard for my liking. And one way to put me off buying anything is to keep trying to pressure me into it.......so well done safe style uk you lost a customer before you even started.:D

accymel 13-08-2006 20:15

Re: Safe style uk??

I think they have lost quite a few specially before, during & after this thread LOL:D
