Re: Change the Union Flag and National Anthem
I too love to see the Union Flag. It fills me with "pride" cause I remember how it filled my grandfather with pride. As for God Save The Queen, I remember him rising at attention and singing along when I was a kid. This was over here in the states. We'd never seen much emotion from him. How I loved when the English World Cup Fans would let out with The Song during the games.
To be honest, and truly, my deepest apologies, but I don't know much about The St. George's Cross. Hadn't noticed it much until this world cup and during our trip to England in July. We did grow quite found of them. I was a bit confused but during that period it was a rare thing to see the Union Flag! Brian |
Re: Change the Union Flag and National Anthem
Further to my previous post about the anthem, how about "Rule Brittania"? It's lively, it's rousing and it can be shouted by both the sober and the completely p*ssed and still stay, reasonably, in tune.
Oops, just thought, it might offend the politically correct - Brittania rules the waves and all that. It's a bit imperialist, right? We mustn't be accused of glorifying who and what we are. |

Re: Change the Union Flag and National Anthem
agree with willow- the flags fine - but the anthem is more than dreary, the word i had in mind is diabolical as well, something with more oomph definatly- the one we have would be ok at royal funerals.

As Mthead recently found out when on a sojourn to Germany on a footy trip, and he found himself living in 'Boy's town' which was festooned with fluttering rainbow flags.:D |

Can anyone give me the telephone number for this P.C. Brigade? I'd like to call and ask if they have any vacancies.:p Seriously, although not a Royalist, I am a traditionalist and we should always keep the flag and anthem we already have. |
Re: Change the Union Flag and National Anthem
My greatgrandfather would be turning in his grave at just thought of changing the flag or anthem.

Re: Change the Union Flag and National Anthem
There is absolutely no reason why the Union Flag should be changed unless the UK is split into its constituent parts. Then we would have to use our part of the Union Flag that being the cross of St George.
Just as a very small aside if the Union Flag is flown upside down it means that the person flying the flag is in distress. The BNP have not hijacked the Union Flag kash not with a name like British National Party. As for the National Anthem its a dirge and does not reflect the country but a dysfunctional family head. |
