roundabout fact!!
:e12:can someone plz tell me why drivers always pull out on a roundabout, when your heading straight towards them??? its like your not there and they just see straight through u! or is it cuz my fella not fortunate to have a new car and only got a oldish one, that they think it is slow and they can beat him.....WRONG, the car maybe old but it can still shift, so to all you drivers out there, next time you see a oldish car and u think you can beat it, think again! cuz next time it will just smash into the side of ya! and u know something else, incase some drivers dont know.... IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT!!!

Re: roundabout fact!!
Hey Panther. What a thread we could have on driving pet peeves. When I was in England I really liked the roundabouts. Folks were very courteous and "welltrain." (even quite polite to a yank new at it!);)
We've gotten rid of most roundabouts around here. Too much ignorance and rudeness I guess like you've been seeing more of. One of my biggest annoyances are drivers who don't use their blinkers. "Drives" me crazy!:) |

I doubt that other drivers take into consideration how old your vehicle is OR how fast it can go. |
Re: roundabout fact!!
yeh but they shouldnt come on the roundabout when i near them, you have to give way to traffic on your right! half of them dont know how to bloody drive!
|
Re: roundabout fact!!
you also have to give way to people who are already on the roundabout,i know what you mean panther, people think because there body is past the line there ok they dont think about the back end of the car,
|
Re: roundabout fact!!
if people actually used common sense and used their indicators correctly and use the correct lane people would know when and when not to pull out
|
Re: roundabout fact!!
if you are at the roundabout and not approaching it you have right of way if you are approaching it and someone is allready there no right of way i can't beleive th enumber of people that don't know the law I drive for a living and the look of disgust when i pull out when to my right a car is 50yds off the roundabout when i pull out if they hit my back axel theres only one winner hgv

Re: roundabout fact!!
Sorry bullydia but I didn't follow that at all. I'm not being pedantic for the sheer sake of it but please could you put a bit of pinctuation in there? I'm honestly struggling to know what you mean. :(

Re: roundabout fact!!
Well I drive a land rover defender, and you wouldn't believe how many people pull out on me, thinking I'm going slow, especially on roundabouts - I usually end up undertaking or nearly wiping them out and giving them the fright of their lifes, and then I'll stay about 1 foot away all the way until I can overtake them, this is entirely their fault although the authorities would probably look at it another way. Not all land rovers are slow, please remember this in the future! :)

Re: roundabout fact!!
Well the way i was taught is this.............................
At a roundabout you give way to your right ( not that the police give a sh"t blue's and two's or not) If you are waiting to go straight on at a mini roundabout but the on coming vehicle is turning into your pathway, they have right of way. Also alot of drivers at a T junction don't know who has right of way!!!! When actually if you are going straight on but the car across from you is turning in your pathway, they have right of way., |

Re: roundabout fact!!
People treat the Ormerod St /Willows Lane junction as if they've all got right of way! You should hear the brakes screeching.

Re: roundabout fact!!
Give way to the traffic on your right and only join the flow if there is room to do so without causing the traffic on your right to have to brake or swerve to avoid you, Panther.
Sadly many drivers seem to think that 5 yards of room is enough for them to pull out into. However when it comes to multiple lane roundabouts and you see a car in the right hand lane you can pull out into the left hand lane, except the chances are that car on the roundabout will suddenly flash left to take the next exit leaving you with the problem of how to get out of his way or leaving him with a problem of how not to hit you. I have found that the greater majority of HGV drivers are responsible drivers and appreciate any help that other motorists give them. If I’m travelling long the middle lane of a motorway and an HGV ahead in the inside lane starts to flash to come out, unless I am very close, I will generally easy off the accelerator and flash him to come out, especially if the road is uphill, even on a two lane motorway. Don’t forget he is only trying to overtake another lorry that is a bit slower and will get back into the inside lane as soon as possible. So it takes him a mile to do it, so what, you’ve only lost a few seconds. The other thing to remember is that HGV’s are not like cars. They need time and distance not just to stop but to gain cruising speed that once lost takes time and diesel to regain. The real menace on the roads are drivers at mini roundabouts. As you approach you see a car on the right waiting to come out but no indicators are flashing so you’ve no idea where he wants to go. You slow down to almost a stop and then the clown decides to set of and turn left. Then there is the idiot who approaches a roundabout flashing to go left and goes straight on or turns right just as you pull out. When it comes to roundabouts I treat all vehicles as being driven by idiots and take extra care. Also alot of drivers at a T junction don't know who has right of way!!!! When actually if you are going straight on but the car across from you is turning in your pathway, they have right of way., I think that you will find that the traffic on the road along the top of the ‘T’ has the right of way slinky. Traffic joining from the right or left has to give way. At the end of each road joining the main road there is either a ‘Stop’ or ‘Give Way’ sign with appropriate road markings at the end of the road. The other and more dangerous menaces are ‘amber gamblers’ who don’t seem to have a clue about traffic lights and plough through on red and in most cases find themselves stuck in a box junction and causing a traffic snarl up. |

I'm confused by that bit. Do you mean both cars on the same road which a side road joins onto? I was under the impression that the car going straight on had right of way and that you should never turn into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Mind you, I haven't driven for years and looking at a recent copy of the Highway Code it doesn't seem to be as clear about a lot of things as I remember it being. |
