blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
As you all know I haven't been around for a while and so have not seen all the threads... Anyway, the whole chipping of bins has really pee'd me off and so I went out to mine and low and behold it is chipped, as reported by all newspapers and media..
But did you know that your blue recycling box is also chipped? I checked mine today and found a small device about the size of a 2p with the label "World Tag - Logistic and Industrial Transponder" - so this means I have had 1 device in my garden that is bugged and another unit in my HOUSE that is also bugged.. This beggars belief that they did not inform us of the spying. Anyway, I will be removing these devices and destroying them, so please, HBC come and get me and I will see you in court! By the way, if this is the first uncovering of the blue boxes being bugged, if you are a newspaper, please at least give us some credit for the story - just printing the web address is enough, thanks. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Really? omg where abouts Roy on the box cos im going to inspect mine i didnt think they would actually do that:eek:
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Well just checked ours and its not chipped,
so why is some chipped and others not is it just the new ones that are ? If you get a new one check and let us know. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
:D Don't bother taking it out, have a look for a single pensioner and swop bins and boxes, that will put the cat among the pigeons. :D
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
i say we shoudl collect all these chips and re locate them in the councils brown box's so that we can manage how much crap they output ;)
edit: wouldnt it be nice if we could arrange a collection point for these chips so that everybody could hand them in , then dump them on teh counter of the town hall surely you cant be done for returning unwanted items and who teh hell gave te council power to put bugs in our homes iem pretty sure this breaks soem law |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Well had a brief look tho it was hard to see it outside in the dark:D
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
surely you can take them off the bins,if they havnt informed you that they have been put on there you can take them off and say you thought that kids have put them on there,or tell them you dont want them on your property(i mean the garden/yard

Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Ages ago when my daughter came home from school with a pledge form - the council promising something to schools for the number of people each pupil could convert to recycling - I asked the blue box collecting man how they would know who was or wasn't participating and he showed me the circular device under the rim of the blue box. He said it was just for monitoring who was recycling so they knew which school they had made the pledge to.
I hope that makes sense. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
what is this ?
accy webs version of teh obserbvers beautifull baby competition but with blue box's instead ? |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Ahhhh yeh kids brought me one of those & harranged by others from same school tho i didnt know or wasn't clear that there would be a bugging device on it:eek: where are these devices stuck on the box?
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
They are under the rim.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?

|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Heehee only one on each box. You see I'm a nosey beggar I just had to know how they could monitor if people were keeping their pledges.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
why are they on there, whats the point in giving them to only a few people,
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Right after uurrgghh inspection i have a circle hole thing where one should be .....but i dont have one wahheeyy well if i did i dont now after daughter threw a hissy fit in the garden & wizzed my box in a bad mood yesterday  so she may of already done me a favour if there was one there LOL

Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
My wheelie bin appears to be chipped and it’s under what appears to be a plastic hexagon headed screw located at the front of the bin under the rim. My blue box isn’t I don’t think I’ll see better tomorrow.
Here’s a couple of links on the subject. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/5355984.stm http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...331396,00.html http://www.timesonline.co.uk/TGD/pic...,334427,00.jpg |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
well ill certainly be inspecting mine tomorrow .will be interesting to know if blackpool does it too.
Im really gobsmacked at the thought that they are allowed to do this without your knowledge ..it disgusts me that a local council can invade peoples privacy in such a way what next cameras lookin through kitchen windows to make you recycle properly ? |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Gee i didnt check my big bins  i think everyone will be bin bug inspecting tommorow too:rolleyes:
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Big bin looks bug free but the blue box has something like a small round magnet but no writing on it, check again in daylight.

Seeing as we are all posting rubbish pictures here are a couple of my bins. They are both chipped. You can just see the cardboard mountain on the left of the picture.

Ok so where are these little bastards hidden?? One of my neighbours says it is in a little hole................hmmmmmm well yeah which one??
There seems to be three holes.......two at either side of the bin and a little slit where you could fit a coin in?? is this the slit ?? in the middle?? cos if I see this BUG thingy I promise I will go and nail it to the town hall door............signed LOVE SLINKY xxxxxxx |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Who actualy owns the bins? Are they allowed to do this?
We should take them off and dump them all somewhere for them to find, will be like a treasurehunt. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
That's a good question Cyfr. Apparently the council own them until one goes missing and then they insist we have to pay for a new one.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
They hav`nt chipped the sacks as well have they?:rofl38:

Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Well mine gets soo full i dont even use them on the day/night they collect i fill up bags with all the recycling and hang them on the fence and put the blue boxes out next to the bags so that they know to stop here! so to them it looks asthough i dont recycle but in fact i doo!!
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
It is supposed to be illegal to remove the tags....this is because the bin belongs to the council. Some councils have threatened to fine people who remove the tags. You could inactivate the tag by putting a strong magnetic force on / near it.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
well ive just inspected mine and it seems all three are chipped so blackpool are doing the same as hbc
still think its a disgrace though |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Quote:
It will look like you do a hell of a lot of recycling and have very little rubbish for the general tip :D |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Are they perhaps there to weigh/count/monitor the rubbish so HBC can respond to whether or not it is meeting Government quotas on recycling?
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?

If the answer is yes then they are doing the job. If the answer is no, then situation normal and they aren't showing up any of the other council departments by being efficient. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Too simple Less, far too simple for HBC let alone the powers that be at Westminster.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
I'm happily not tagged.:)
What suprises me is what they are going to do with the information they get from the chips? It took Hyndburn Borough Council two years of phone calls to eventually get round to giving me the requested recycling box/sacks, and if you've ever tried phoning the council, and been held in a queue for what seems like forever, you may come to the conclusion that they may be wiser to employ people to actually answer the phones. Are they going to employ a person, or team of people, to analyse the information gathered? Not being a techie, what useful information could these chips possibly give? They could probably say how often the wheelie bin/boxes are moved, or how much they weigh, but they wont be able to tell if you've mixed up your glass with your plastics, or the fact that your neighbour has over filled your bin with rubbish after you left it out for collection. |

Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
You get a separate bin each for plastic bottles and for cans? We have to put BOTH into one mingy sack! Where do you put your glass Neil?
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?

White sack- paper. Blue sack- plastic. Green sack- textiles. Blue box- glass and tins. Black wheelie bin- dead bodies...I mean all the rest of the rubbish, except for cardboard, which has to be bundled up next to the bin. |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
You have a green sack???????????????
I'm jealous!!! Didn't you get the new instructions to put your tins in the bags with the plastic bottles? It's madness, people in different areas of the same borough are doing different things! :D |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?

It does seem a bit mad that differing parts of the borough have different instructions. The green recycling sack was posted through my door in April, and which I strated a thread about. http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...green+textiles |

Surely the refuse collectors can see if a house never uses the recycling kit, or if a person's wheelie bin isn't put out for more than a year, then the person is probably dead...with a mountain of Council Tax demands behind the door...waiting to be recycled! |
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
If you have children of school age you can pledge to recycle. You can also get grandparents to do so as well. I assume that they use the tags to identify who is actually recycling and who has just signed the form but not recycled at all.
The school's get points per pledges and are awarded prizes like computers if the people who have pledged actually do so. |

It's totally mad that we have different instructions in different areas. Mad but hardly surprising knowing Hyndborg BC.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
We NEVER put out our blue box and blue sack. That doesn't mean that we don't recycle. It just means that we can't be bothered waiting for HBC to empty once a fortnight. We take them to the tip ourselves. Will they tell us off for not putting our blue box/bag out? I'd like to see them try!
|
Re: It’s Not Easy Being Green.
:engsmil: These chips in your wheely bin are there to monitor weight, when the council decide you will have to pay for what you do not recycle, it is in force in southern bouroughs now.
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
i dont have a chip on my wheelie bin, but gonna check me blue box, and if there is one its coming off!! cheeky sods my blue box only gets emptied once a month cuz i dont have many glass objects to put in, its mostly plastic!!
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Ours is the sam Panther. How can we recycle more glass if we don't have more glass to recycle?
|
Re: blue boxes chipped, old or new news?
Woke up this morning to find my blue bin in the hall , turned upside down with a note on left by Alec, saying in large capital letters with an arrow "BUG" .... Needless to say i was half a sleep and was frantically looking around for something with a hundread legs and that could run at 100mph.:o
