Accrington General Post Office
I am not sure if this is old news or, and, has been discussed on this forum yet, but I feel quite annoyed that everybody that worked at the general post office at Accrington has lost their jobs. Some people (who I know personally) have worked there for over 15 years. The even more troubling thing is that everybody who works there now are Asian - not a single white person or for that matter any other race. I realize this is a sensitive subject and I do not want to come across as basis, but something somewhere is not right and I would like to hear other peoples views on this subject.

What actually happened to the people who worked there? I did sign the petition they had to try and stop it happening. It's irrelevant what ethnic group the present staff are. What's more to the point is are they all new and if so, why?

I believe some people moved to other post offices others to other jobs, and all I can presume at the moment is that some lost there jobs. I too signed the petition and as I was told 14 out of the 15 councilors were against the move but it still went ahead away? I personally am not sure what ethnic group takes over is irrelevant?

Provided they do their job properly and do not exclude employing anyone on race grounds then I don't see that the ethnic originof the new owners is relevant. The PO being sold and all the previous employees losing their jobs is the sad part.

A friend of mine took redundancy. She'd been at the post office for many years. She worked at Burnley, Preston and Accy.

Are they still offering the same service or have they cut down on the range of PO type things?

I have been in the the post office today and the service was excellent, and I don't think there has been any cut backs?

They will be doing because it wont be a Crown Post Office now - it will just be a normal post office.

From what i can remember - i will ask my friend in a couple of days - it's to do on the business side. TV Licences is one as well i think. I cant remember we had a conversation about it all. Because there are some that you cant do at a general but you can at a crown. Because Crown post offices are the ones that are ran by the post office. The rest are like franchises. Ran by people trained by the post office but are owned by them.

Maybe the reason that it's only asian people employed at the post office is that it was bought out by asians. That is what I was told by a lady a few months ago.

You would have a hard job proving it and besides the asians will work for less alledgedly.
