Dunno, really. The 24 hour one could have been fun. See if we could have lasted on here for 24 hours. It could have gone in the papers to encourage people to come onto accyweb and have a look how we are getting on, hopefully gaining more members for the site whilst raising cash for Children In Need.

That is actually a very very good idea :D

All we need to do is get some sponsor forms going, get some publicity on it, then we open a 24 hour thread for children in need where we all have to keep talking so that people know that we are still awake lol.

Well ....... I don't want to put her on the spot :) ..... but if enogh interest is shown I was hoping Gayle would have some ideas on that. I've never done any fundraising before so not sure how to go about getting the publicity for it and other stuff.

Another idea - the most users ever online was 965 - if we were to set a time and try to beat that number - all putting in £1, we'd have almost £1000.

Only thing with that is some of them were visitors, and won't pay the pounds.

Love that idea too, Gayle :)

To make it easier to collect money you can set up a page on Just Giving - Accy web sponsorship page

Justgiving - Donate to BBC Children in Need

Then people can pay the pound by paypal or credit card direct into the account.

Fantastic Idea then Gayle....I just didn't know how we would get around the payment thingy...;)

That looks really easy to sort out Gayle.

We could do both, a sponsored 24 hour online-a-thon for those who want to take part and the £1 from those willing to give it. Surely we could get to a grand. :D

Are the mods able to email all members - past and present - to let them know that we're trying to break the record?

It is - I used it for my sponsored diet and they sort everything out for you. At the end of the time period you get a letter from them saying they've send the money on. Plus, I think that you get the tax on it as well so every £1 actually donates £1.20 or something like that.

Hopefully the public could play a big part in getting to the big 1000, what are the press like for ideas like this Gayle? Will they be willing to run a decent piece on it?

You never know. We could send them the info (most of them read the site anyway), 'fraid we'd have to hope for the best. Think we should also get the mods to send emails to all the members to encourage them. Plus, we should all make a point of sending an email to at least five people to spread the word.
