We have an excellent doctors surgery. Problem is it's in Brierfield lol.

Not sure about the rules when we move to Accy if we have to move Doc's but if we can keep them we will be doing, worth the trek.

Mel... If your child has seen the consultant before, it may be worth ringing the consultant's secretary and trying to get an appointment through her. Technically you would not require a referral if your child has been a patient in the past.

MMmm i was actually thinking about doing that if im unsuccessful tommorow i dont know why it requires a doctors referral but the drs secretary has it on her screen about the details as referral deadline is there - yet im still having problems:(

Might look into changing doctors depending on recommendations so will look with interest here

I have no problem with my doctor as he doesn't use an appointment system. not too long ago I needed an appointment for the oral and dental clinic at the Royal Blackburn within two weeks the NHS rang me giving me a choice of hospitals and when I wanted to go. In other words from asking my GP, to going to the Royal took around five weeks, works for me

Finish work at 2,phone appointments......none left,but i can see a nurse.Start work at 2,phone continuously engaged till from 8.30 till 10.30.......finally get through but no appointments with doctor or nurse left for before 2.Sometimes,and all due respect to the nurses,i do want to see my GP and no one else.I actually haven't seen the doctor whom i am registered with for about 5 years now.It's a case of if i'm lucky enough to get an appointment with a doctor i'll take whoevers available.And no need to ask which centre i'm talking about.Maybe should have called this thread Doctor Disappointments.:mad:

My GP has changed twice since I was last there and aint a clue who mine is. It is such a pain to get an appointment especially when working shifts I dont bother now.

the drs dont do appointments for children you just ring them up and thay slot the children in without makeing an appointment for them its just adults that have to have an appointment

Might be getting somewhere:D SPent the morning again listening to engaged tones just got thro & spoke to the receptionist who was helpful enough to look at my childs records & said she will have a word with the Dr for a referral as it states he needs a referral back if in pain & will ring me back to let me know if he can do it without being seen.

I might have known slinky would be at that docs that is our doc too he is a good doc is Dr Dixon he is also part of the team that own the place where Anne works everytime she goes to see him he allways asks if she has killed anyone this week (thinks he is a comic) but a very helpfull doc i would never change.

In the late forties early fifties I lived at 148 Blackburn Road and my doctor, a Dr. Devlin lived and had his surgery at Myrtle House. Handy - because as a child I suffered a lot with tonsillitis until the tonsils were whipped out at Accrington Victoria.

My current doctor, AK Gupta, has moved (allegedly and temporarily whilst Springhill Surgery on Bolton Road is being re-furbished) his surgery to the Darwen medical centre, behind the baths/leisure centre. It’s been a few months now so I don’t think that he is going back.

However I have never had a problem getting an appointment to see him. In fact it was only the other day whilst attending the Warfarin clinic I enquired about the flu jab and was told if I was prepared to wait for the three patients before me I would get one there and then.

In general lansdave if you move outside your doctor’s catchments area you will have to get another doctor.

I know where Anne works, because I know which nursing home they own.

He is also our in house doctor where I work lol, and he has us in stitches. He will ring the intercom to come in and when we ask who it is, he always answers with something dodgy like " hiya it's Tony Blair"......he once answered with " hello it's Harold Shipman" :eek::D..........he's a head case, but a cracking doctor.
