Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
I really don't like Christmas. It has become a huge commercial event & causes so many people unnecessary hardship & despair. My sister has 3 daughters (8, 13 & 15 years old), all of which want the best / latest things, she does her best to get them for them, but it's not always possible. She also starts her Christmas shopping for the following year on Jan 1st in the sales.
I never put any decorations up, & usually buy my presents for people a couple of day before Christmas. :( |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Usually put tree up 2 weekends before Christmas. Hate Christmas shopping and I would like to win the Lottery for my present please :D

There is so much pressure to spend money though. It just seems really sad that year after year people get into debt. People should be able to celebrate, and enjoy themselves without needing to spend hundreds, and in some cases thousands of pounds. Christmas lasts at best a week, for some the debts will be there for months, or even years. |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Two weeks before for the tree and a week after for it to come down. I'd really like a real one this year with a fairy stuck on top.....:)
Christmas expensive but for many people it’s often the only time they get to see family members gathered together, for others it the last one they will see. What I’m saying is no matter what you believe, you should make the effort to enjoy the season, and bring together those you love and care for. I’d give so much to spend another Christmas with all four of my grandparents and my father. But please spare a little time for those who don’t have anyone or nothing to look forward too. It could well be us one day. Marry Christmas. |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
My dec's go up usually 1st of dec depending on mood & how much pressure i can stand from the kids to do it & then rush like a mad dog for pressies & they get what my limit is, usually get a loan but this year im gonna try to manage:D

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Congrats kezia on your first post, what a good topic! I am glad that you have asked me what I want for Christmas, can I have a new car please? :D ;) If not, a few hundred quid in my account would do nicely:banlama: :rofl38:

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
We usually put the tree up at the beginning of December, but it will be a bit later this year as we have just had some work done and have to decorate first as i want it all done for christmas.
|
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Decorations and tree up a couple of days before. As for shopping I will get the small easy bits over the next few weeks and the big expensive stuff in the January. Then all I say is that I am folowing the Russian Orthodox Churches Christmas which means to crimbo's a year and a few quid saved. :D

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
My tree is usually put up around the 1st week in December. Our Christmas day is Christmas eve when the family come over.
Usually working Christmas day but have it off this year. For Christmas I just want to see the smiles on the Children's faces when they open their prezzies. |

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
What a interesting and very topical post Kezia.
I usually put my tree up around the second weekend of December, depending if i've had chance to go and get it. If not it would be the following week. What i would really like for Christmas is to spend the day with my family, which includes my sister's family and my father. As for Christmas shopping, started earlier on in September, bought two presents then stopped. Can't get motivated to do anymore. |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
No tree in my house until a couple of days before Christmas. What's the point of it before then?
I don't do much Christmas shopping. Everyone gets a gift but I won't do the "commercial" stuff, to me that's not what Christmas is about. I love to have all my family around, usually on Boxing Day, but I wouldn't give a damn if they didn't buy me anything. A meal together and the pleasure of each other's company is worth far more than anything material. |

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Sometime after Friday's post, the site got hacked. Good grief! Is nothing sacred? Anyway, whatever I wrote on this subject appears to have gone into the ether. Ah, well, what's new about that?
Main point I was making, though.....a bullseyebarb Christmas is sans commercialism. Oh, sure, when you have young children in the household, Father Christmas is going to put in an appearance. But after that, why? The bullseyebarb Christmas consists of heading out into the forest to gather fresh greenery and berries. Decorations, (which begin to appear around the end of November), consist of candles, Nativities and an extensive collection of miniature Victorian buildings and figurines. Our own little town, (illuminated), - with frozen pond for ice-skating under a full moon. A nice log fire if it gets cold enough. But no gift buying. People don't know how we get away with this.....but, boy, are they envious. |

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
This year the tree & trimmings will be going up after the plumber has fitted the new bathroom suite. No we dont put them up in the bathroom, its we want one job out of the way before we start another.Unfortunately the way the job keeps getting put back it could be new year before we get them up:mad: I think the new suite will be our big pressie from Santa(if it comes in time) and we'll be putting small gifts for each other under the tree:)

Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
My birthday is the 9th and i absolutely refuse to have any of the glory taken away by that big bloke dressed in red. So the tree will go up about the 12th No Kezia, not tomorrow! Hehehehe!:D
And.... can i also have a lovely big bloke who is good at diy, and a big box of thorntons chocolates! Actually she's already got mine, i know where they are hidden going to have a peek:D |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Well I've been a good girl this year LOL so expecting lots of pressies!! (one can wish) got a good idea what one of my pressies is but will have to wait and see!
Be happy, be merry. What happened to the Christmas spirit? Seems to have been lost these days, or am I just getting old LOL. Christmas is far too commercialised these days with christmas being advertised as early as September. Is it just me or does anyone out there agree! |
Re: Christmas !!!!!!!
Isnt Christmas what you make it :D
Having christmas dinner at mum and dads this year :D as my brother is coming over from Ireland. Cant wait. I usually only see him once a year now :( |
