Where Would Your Money Go?

I've just been watching a tv programme on channel 4. I'll try to explain. A successful multi millionaire wanted to give a little bit of something back to society in the form of money. He wanted to choose where he thought the money would be most beneficial, so he went under-cover as a youth worker in one of Londons most deprived areas, Hackney.

To cut a long story short, after his own research he donated £20,000 to the only youth club in the area and was in dire need of financial help. The tears from the group leader was enough to show how much this money was needed.

He donated £10,000 to a young and up-coming fashion designer, who, under normal circumstances be able to raise so much money to start, what could be a very good business.

He gave another £10,000 to an ex-boxer that contributed so much to his area, he really was the life of that community.

If money was no object, besides the very deserving accyweb, who would you give/donate a large amount of cash to help?

I watched it too.:)

I thought it was going to be patronising. The rich benefactor doling out money to the poor and needy. I think the young guy Ben probably got as much out of it as the people that he gave the money to. It was also good that he's continuing his involvement with the youth club, and helping them by using his considerable skills.

Who would I give money to if I had a windfall? Hard one.

Probably to some of the 12 million children who have been orphaned by AIDS in Africa.

It in my case it can only be medical research, yes I know it's 'boring,' great strides are made daily in all forms of research, once fatal diseases are now treated on an 'out patient' basis, extending life without the need of painfull surgery is another example, I could go on and on.

I thought exactly the same thing. Funny how we have pre-conceived ideas when it comes to wealthy peoples motives when they are trying to help out.

I think I would give a fair bit of financial backing to the air ambulance.

I ment to watch this, i'll have to download it. :p

Im not sure I could ever donate a sum of cash like that, I'd have to be positive that its going to be spent wisely to help somebody get out of poverty..

The programme wasn't about poverty, it was about about giving people an oppurtunity to achieve goals that they wouldn't have had the chance to otherwise because of finincial difficulty.

Yeah you know what I mean. :p

Helping someone who couldn't normally have the chance because of financial difficulty is helping people out of poverty in my eyes.. although perhaps thats somewhat misleading on my part as someone dosnt need to be 'poor' to have difficulties.. hmm! :)

edit: Is it a series or just a one off? I really did mean to watch this.. I blame you all for not posting prior to the tv show airing :D

Now that is what I call a challenge, hard not to be selfish, higher education for all not just those who's parents can easilly pay for.
