Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I've stayed off here for a few weeks and I suspect I'm going to regret posting this but thought you might like to know that Burnley's Panopticon has been built.
http://www.panopticons.uk.net/images/SRT.jpg Just off the A682 at Crown Point, Burnley. For another view of it someone has posted it onto You Tube already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rhuFGvXARA |
Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I think i prefer that to what we are going to get - a halo - more like a space ship sending signals i want to come home!
|
Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I’m stuck for words, but I’ll give it a go. How about Ugly Monstrosity? No! How about ****e? Whatever people think, all I can say is thank **** it’s in Burnley

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
It is the most spooky sound ever, I'll agree! You can't hear it until you get about 30ft away from it. It uses the wind to make the noise and so as you're walking down the path all you can hear is the wind (it's on top of a hill) then as you're walking towards it these noises start coming out of the wind.
I think it is the most beautiful of the sculptures in the series. |

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
The money, as I have said many times, comes from NWDA and not a penny of it from the Council. Private money has also been put into this by the Towneley family and some trusts, who's land it is on.

Just a point though. Whether you like it or not, and aesthetics are very personal, it is getting publicity for Burnley - good publicity at that.

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Where is it getting publicity? There was a mention on Granada news but news is very quickly forgotten. How many people can now remember the one Blackburn have and where it is located?
It is a very freaky weird sound. I'd certainly not call it singing or ringing, but then again I wouldn't call it a tree either. It doesn't look quite like the artists impression but then things never do do they? I'm not sure whether I find it attractive or not but I do agree that it's the best of the bunch. |
Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
I didn't know Blackburn had one...?
|
Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley
Well I think its pretty nifty:p but then I dont live close too it :D
|
Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley

This tree, set in this landscape, in my opinion looks great. I'd be the first to slag it off if I genuinely thought it was crap, as it would in my backyard because of it's size. Thought the bespectacled, bald, willow man I've had built in my yard, ready for the grand fire ceremony on New Year's Eve looks great.;) |

I'm sorry I just think they're all a monstrosity, from the stupid bees on the roundabout at that place up the road to the rusty owd Angel of The North. Let a natural beauty be exactly that IMHO!

Come on you happy chatters, back in your special thread in Anything Goes.

Human created beauty is found in architecture of beautiful buildings, again IMHO. Not some crappy metal monstrosity plonked on some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. |

It made all those people get out and walk up that hill to look at it, it made us here discuss what is beauty.
Art? Don't know, but it's serving it's purpose as a thing to provoke a thought or reaction. Congratulations to it. |
