Re: Car Insurance
I found it was cheaper to insure the car after i'd had an accident and lost my no claims!!!

Re: Car Insurance
Or you can do what my bosses son does which insure a small car(in this case a 106) fully comp and then you can drive any car third party. And so with that he drives a 1999 BMW M3.

2) its not 3rd party, its road traffic act only which means they don't even cover the other persons car, only injuries so if he hits someone he will find himself having to cough up for any reapirs to the car. 3)How will he tax the M3, you need a valid insurance cert to do so, they won't let him tax it based on his 3rd party cover. |
Re: Car Insurance
He as had this before with details of what the cover actually covers and he as it in writing that will be coverec while driving the BMW. I dont know the ins and outs but thats what he and his father says. As far as tax is concerned i dont know how he does that but it is an interesting point.

Re: Car Insurance
he is only covered from the 106 policy for 3rd party if the 2nd vehicle the bmw is also insured, not belonging to him ,and not hired to him under a hire purchase agreement. your boss is talking through his backside,

Re: Car Insurance

Also with the introduction of the MID (Motor Insurance Database), more uninsured vehicles are being taken of the road, if you was stopped in Accrington, your vehicle would normal be taken from you at the road side, down to AAA in Clayton at a cost of £135.00 Ish, and I think about £12 a day, you have to prove its insured before you can get it back. Also the Driving other cars extention is all fine, but lets say the M3 isnt insured at all, a police camera would pick it up as Uninsured, so a stop and producer, nothing more than hassel really. However as soon as he steps out of the vehicle, if its on a public highway it is now illegal as its uninsured, and could be towed away. The Driving other vehicle extention, would cover the other persons (Third Partys) vehicle also, as well as any other Third Party Property that was damaged. (Not all polices are the same but the majority would). |
Re: Car Insurance
every insurer i rang said that to drive another car it had to be insured even with me been fully comp i can not drive another car unless its owner has insurance for it
i can drive my brothers car 3rd party but if he had no insurance i couldnt drive it legaly the only thing i can think of is to insure yourself to drive any car , soem kind of traders insurance i think it is but what your boss is doing with teh 106 and his bmw seems like a lot of wind or he dosnt realise hes driving the bmw uninsured only way he will find out for sure is when he has an accident i suppose or has to produce documents at the station i remember a friend of mine buying a scrap mini and insuring himself fully comp and driving his xr3i but that was in teh 80's iem pretty sure insurance companies clicked on to the scam and altered tehir polocies to stop it another trick he used to do to get cheaper insurance was when he had a clean licence he reported his license lost and when he eventualy got points he used to show his clean license to the insurers to get lower quotes but you cant do that these days because all teh computers are linked up now i think and besides him lying about the points would invalidate the insurance shoudl he have an accident , again in teh 80's and things have changed now anyway ime no expert but it does sound very grey :) |

It is a safe guard againt uninsured driving in the event you need to drive somebody else's car, your insurer will indemnify any damage to a Third Party person or property. in the event of an accident. Its there to protect the Third Party. Another Myth is that you have to be fully comprehensive. |
