Re: Care Workers

The legal age to provide care in the private sector is 18, more shockingly to be in charge of a shift or run a nursing home the minimum age is 21.

I do totally agree with slinks the minimum age should be 21. As for this individual her name will appear on the POVA list. (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) She will be prevented from working with vulnerable adults and Children. Any employment where she requires a CRB will alert employers as to her crimes.

Re: Care Workers

I look after a lovely little lady. And every day she gives me a pound coin and says " get yourself some sweets" :D.

When I first started I always refused, which resulted in her becoming upset that i wouldn't take it. Now I take it and say greatfully " thanks " A " I will do" Then I place the pond coin in her bedside cabinet. The next day she gives me the same pound coin :D:D Bless her, but what she doesn't know won't hurt her.....and it pleases her no end to think she is giving me a treat.

I know it's only a pound!!! but I got to thinking, If I was a person who just took this money off her.....working it out that £1 every week for three days and I have worked there 3 years. It mounts up.

There are a hell of a lot of vunerable people out there, and in my line of work you see it more and more.

Its awful that - robbing someone you are supposed to be taking care of.

I know if that had happened to my mum when she had the carers in i'd have done my nut and she would have been sorry! In one way i do agree with slinks that carers should be over 21 especially if they are doing home care and not in a residential home. But i know some teenagers who are a lot more caring than older people. When we had the carers coming in to get mum to bed or get her up or just to sit with her some of the younger ones were more caring than some of the older ones. To me it was the younger ones treated my mum like their granny and how they would like their granny to be treated. Its hard to explain.

It's awful when anyone takes advantage of someone vulnerable in whatever situation. I knew of a care home (now closed) where they suspected one of the workers of stealing from the residents but they didn't go to the police with it - just sacked her. Presumably she wouldn't have got a similar job elsewhere but if she had been stealing she got away with it, and the indications were that she had because she didn't fight her dismisal.

Re: Care Workers

I have been a carer for over 20yrs and ive seen a lot of carers come and go in my time.
Old and young good and bad.
From work experience to so called experienced carers. Age just doesn't come into it there are good and bad of all ages.
Some of the older ones just shouldn't be in the caring profession and some that have come straight from school have turned out to be brilliant, careers and Nurses.
I would rather leave my parents in the hands of a good genuine caring 18yr old than a bad older carer.
This nasty woman wants making an example of and i hope she gets her just deserts.
