Electoral Votes

At one time if you were in prison you were not allowed to vote as part of the punishment. Now up in this neck of the woods its been decided that its against human rights to deny prisoners the vote daft as it sounds. So there is a good chance that several million pounds will be paid out come May and the Hollyrood elections because prisoners cannot vote and the change will not be ready in time. Is it right to allow them the vote or right to deny them it?

Any comment from Greg Pope on this though it seems to be a Scottish issue at the moment.

I would have thought, given Scotlands 'macho' image, they would have been the last to give this scum the right to vote. They are 'inside' for having no regard for others human rights, why should they be afforded them!

I dont think they should be allowed to vote, they certainly shouldn't be entitled to human rights, its ridiculous, there in prison for crying out loud, it makes me cross that our tax payers money pays for them to live in luxury, tv, decent meals, gym etc, free holiday for some of these scumbags.

Don't forget, the Human Rights Act applies to the whole of the UK, since this wretched government incorporated it into British law in 1997, so it'll be England next!

Re: Electoral Votes

What they should have incorporated into British Law in 1997 Wynonie, was not affording the felons human rights, untill they have fulfilled their human obligations to the society they have offended.

Just imagine, if prisoners could vote, you'd start seeing the politicians campaigning for the prison vote. These votes would be quite valuable because it would be a very substantial voting bloc. By making them fancy promises you could get almost 100% of them voting. Meaning these scoundrels could actually sway an election.

Worst off, what promises would the politicos make to get the vote. It'd have to be better conditions, lesser judgements, extended all expense holidays etc.

Just a thought!

Re: Electoral Votes

In a nutshell – if someone gets sent to prison they should lose all civil rights with the exception of humane and medical treatment when required.

Those rights should not be restored until the sentence has been served in full including any parole time.

Re: Electoral Votes

No they should not be allowed to vote. I don't care if that is against their human rights and if it's discrimination. Why should criminals have a say in the running of the country?
