my 10 year old has ALWAYS got up from his seat to let older people sit down, and thats without me ever having to tell him to do it......he'd even get up off his seat for you spugster...seen as your an older person ;)

Possible Cashy, though I was born in the 70's and brought up with manners and to respect your elders, early 80's things went downhill when the cane was banned, well it did at my school anyway.

We left school in '92 and I know that us 3 girls (me, accymel and flashy) always had respect for our elders and would give up our seats on a bus.

Whenever or whatever kicked it off its been a pain in the preverbial ever since. When the stage is reached were its ok for kids to say that they can basically do as the please because of the protection they have at the expense of the more vunerable in society then we need to have a good hard look at ourselves. How can we be civilised if even basic manners and considerations are out of the window.

I like many others on here were brought up to respect my elders and give my seat up on the bus when required and i never needed telling...
I have brought mine up with the same respect and hopefully they will go on to bring theres up as and when the need occurs..

Although i do rem in the 80s when i had a 6 yr old and 2 toddlers with me and i had to go into accrington ,and there was a few kids on the bus and the only one to offer me some help and a seat were a pensioner ..... so yes even back then the youths were as ignorant as today...

Now I wonder if this is the time to start instilling old fashioned values into kids instead of having them playing computer games and running aroud with their neebs. How many parents actually know how their beloved offspring are behaving when out roaming. I have taught my daughter the values I have and I get a inner glow when she uses them like some of you do.

There would be hell to pay if either of my kids did not stand up on a bus for the elderly, expectant mothers, the disabled or anyone for that matter who needed a seat. They always have done and i hope they still do. But the number of times i have not had a thankyou from someone for letting them have my seat is getting higher and higher (especially the elderly). After all it doesn't cost anything to have good manners. Also if i am in a bus queue and there is an elderly person behind me i always let them go in front, especially if the bus is ready to set of. Because quite a lot of bus drivers seem to be getting ruder and not waiting for people to sit down before driving off, which really annoys me.
