I've yet to find something that offends me. I find most things funny - bad taste or not.

In the context of the forum, I suppose it just mirrors everyday social interaction. Not everybody gets along and some people are more 'sensitive' than others. Some people are quiet about their disapproval of comments or jokes that are in bad taste, others throw a massive hissy fit.

I think sometimes it depends what mood your in as to whether you find a joke funny or not, I've got quite a sick sense of humour and will laugh at most things the more "un pc" the better.
Being exposed to horrible and often sad situations at work you have to find some humour or you'd be constantly on a downer.

Some of the non PC humour was never intended to be offensive. Characters like the Jack Smethurst one in 'Love Thy Neighbour' cause people to laugh at his bigotry not to laugh at the person he is saying things about.

I think we need to be able to laugh at ourselves. That's not the same as someone being downright offensive and not even mildly funny.

I suppose a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder. I've been on the receiving end of some very funny Irish jokes/Mormon jokes/women jokes etc and if they are funny then they just make me laugh.

I can never remember jokes, and just rely on my wits to be wildly amusing.:D

However, the only two jokes I can recall off the top of my head are ones I could tell my mother. One involves a pram, and the other relates to the earthquake in Pakistan. If you were being analytical about them, one would be seen as a joke about child abuse, and the other would be racist. Both totally unfunny subjects, yet both jokes raised a groaned chuckle when told to me.

Funny old world.

By the same rule 'bigots' have no place here either, being a relatively new member to the site these are my observations, also allowances must be made for 'smart A' new members as I was myself and maybe in some of your opinions am yet. Just remember my 'esteemed' members your a long time dead.

Aye my friend Ian, you were quite the ticket in your early days. Boy you could get all our danders up! I'm very glad that you have stuck with Accyweb as I've enjoyed getting to know you, quirks and all (hmm, are those my quirks or yours? chin chin:p )

Now, if you don't mind, what's your last statement mean?

ok I know its kind of tasteless/ sick but for some reason I find the idea of Prof Stephen Hawking going on a zero gravity flight slightly bizarre/amusing

Re: You've got to be joking...right?

Pretty much anything goes with me.. I have a totally sick sense of humour which, like Grego is a side effect of working in tragic situations. Most clinical staff in the NHS, docs, nurses, midwives etc have the ability to laugh at tragedy because if we didn't, we'd cry. I have also found that ambulance personnel, firemen and police officers have a similar sort of humour.

As far as I'm concerned, the more politically incorrect the joke, the better it is.... but ultimately, it's how you tell em..:D

It sounds more like a fairground ride than a flight. 25 seconds of zero gravity? You can experience that at Blackpool. :D

Just reading through this old thread.

Some interesting points, especially with the recent furor about what is, and what isn't funny.

(I hope you don't mind me resurrecting it Bernie. R.I.P. Ian.)
