We get our fair share over here in Italy -the worst ones have always been down South. I have felt about 5 since I've lived here -the worst one near Alessandria about 7 yrs ago. It's not a nice feeling (makes you realise the power of nature).
My nephew studies in Christchurch, NZ and experienced the big one there, luckily he was OK -but they are still living with after-shocks. I imagine all those out in California must always have a bit of anxiety in the back of their minds...

We had a 3.6 jolt last night centered about 4 miles from me , think we tend to accept them as a bit of a trade off , no Hurricanes like Florida and the South , no Tornados like the mid-west and no bad winters/blizzards like the North-Eastern States, and no never ending rain like Seattle and the Pacific North-west

3.6 quake shakes Bay Area

Think all 6 million of us in the San Francisco /Bay Area accept that the "Big" one will come one day :D :D :D

Today a 6.9 quake has happened on an Alaskan Island in the north pacific

Earthquake - Magnitude 6.9 - FOX ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN ISLANDS - 2011 September 02, 10:55 UTC

We are getting accustomed to frequent quakes now - they have to be magnitude 5 or above and in populated areas before they even make the news.

So the saying "How was it for you, darling?" "The earth moved, darling" will take on a whole new meaning. And we'll be telling the truth.
