Not an excuse to speed at all. faced with a lorry coming at me througfh teh central res(And I've seen it happen a few times) I'd like to be able to shove that foot down and get out the way. Cars won't be limited on bhp for forseeable future, there aren't even any rumours, black boxes for speeds won't happen due to privacy. Also you will often find that the larger engined cars are actualy more environmentally friendly when it comes to emissions than a lot of small cars. There are some Mercs/Saabs and volvos that driven through london actually filter the air and put out less crap than they sucked in. Electric vehicles just move the production of emissions from the exhaust to the power station, there is no evidence that they would actually make any difference whatsoever to the overall emissions figure. Then there is teh life cycle of teh car itself. over 75% of teh emissions that a car is responsible for throughout its life come from manufacture and recycling. I'm a high mileage user (current vehicle is at 170K miles and I'm aiming for >250K )so I actually get the most out of the total emissions cost LPG duty will not increase for at least 4 years. The LPG used in the UK is a by product of the extraction of oil. About 75% of what comes out is actually burnt at the rig as we don't have a market to use it. The more LPG vehicles, the more efficient the whole oil extraction process becomes 20% is still a significant figure and when you add particulates and NOx to the mix its a massive saving. However more importantly, you also seem to be missing the whole point about emissions. With the rate of growth in China at the moment if the WHOLE of Europe stopped producing a single molecule of CO2 today, China would fill the gap left in less than 4 years. It is effectively useless to say that we are helping without the world reigning in the likes of China and USA. |

Cars are getting more powerfull, engineering advancements but I wouldnt say too powerfull.
Speed insome cases can save lives. As speed increases at least safty also follows suit. What a waste of a NICE car. |
Re: Are cars getting too powerful

In your grandchildren's time all this will be irreleavant, as fossil fuels will be so scarce and expensive that only the rich will be able to travel further than you can walk.
Now is a good time to invest in bicycles or buy horses.:D |
Re: Are cars getting too powerful
Well why does eveyone say its italian? Ive never heard it be called french before.

Re: Are cars getting too powerful
Rindy, did you not see the episode of Top Gear where they powered cars on cow poo & human poo? If theres one thing certain in life like death and taxes, its poo
Then there are all the other sources of bio fuel, farmers today could stop being given subsidys and told to put those fields over to rapeseed, they can create enough biodiesel to power all the UKs diesel requirements. Only Shell etc would then stop bankrolling the political parties and they'd all be bankrupt overnight. |
