It's like Dumfries unless you'r into Burns don't bother if it has nothing to offer save being the birthplace of Mozart its about as interesting as plate of mince without potatoes. For onece I must dissagree with you jamesicus, try Venice instead just as cheap this time of the year.

Beautiful barocque churches in Salzburg.......not to be missed.....also take the lift to the castle.....great view from up there.....Keep an eye out for the street musicians near the entrance to the castle.......they are amazing. All in all.....a lovely city.

I was there a few weeks ago in Feb. Went out from Liverpool with RyanAir. About 2½ hours flight. Busses outside the terminal are every 20 mins and it's only 1.80 euro to the main train station ("Haupt Bahnhoff").

Recommend brushing up on the old Deutsch which always goes well with the locals. "ein bier, bitte" etc! : )

Have a good one!

I went about 10 years ago, I was on a scout camp at the time a short distance outside Saltzberg, we travelled in for the day. We did all the touristy things including going down the salt mines, I know it sounds naff but its worth doing just for the beautiful caves and things, also you enter them via a big slide so you get a bit of a thrill ride to!!!

The arcitecture is beautiful, and there are loads of little bistro cafes and things.

I would go again now if I had the chance.

For Mozart devotees there is a great variety of superb live concerts of minor and major works throughout the year at various venues. This year the featured work is the Requiem:

Mozart 2007 Concert series -- Mozart's Requiem (K. 626) April 14 to September 29 (except during the Festival season), every Saturday at 6:00 p.m. -- Performed by the Leopold Mozart Orchestra & Salzburg Municipal Choir.

April 14, 21, 28
May 5, 12, 19, 26
June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
July 7, 14, 21, 28
August 18, 25
September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Never mind Mozart, I would like to think the members are aquainted with his works, I suggested, Venice as Gale is involved with art, mid penine etc that this venue mighn't be a good exercise in the appreciation of real art and not the grotesque structures that are being passed of as art in our area.;)

Only been once cashy on a day trip one Sunday, those fountains were only run either once or twice a day bacause of water consumption, the Ramblas where you could buy anything ,with the waiters dodging the traffic to serve customers in the centre amused me, they reckon it is a covered river no doubt someone will enlighten us, yes a truly great City.

Well, we've booked it so we're going. My reckoning is that it's only two days and it will be a break, and I'm sure there's enough to keep us occupied for two days without having to resort to Mozart or the Sound of Music.

not sure about it being a covered river but la rambla in spanish means intermittent water flow from the arabic ramla - sandy riverbed

i think it was more of a term used to describe the flow of people through the official 'les rambles' containing all the interconnecting streets between placa de catalunya and port vell.

a truly wonderful place to visit

(i may be wrong though)

re salzburg - some beautiful architecture and plenty of mozart history
otherwise very expensive and imho if you aint there for the mozart then try somewhere else.

It wasn't too long after july that the Belgiums reek havoc on Accyweb! Flashy, you got some 'splaining ta do???;)

All this talk of foreign adventures . . . . Does this mean I'm not thinking things through? I thought Accrington was a world renown tourist attraction? Am I wasting my time planning a visit? Or is seeing "the gang and their Accy Meet antics" well worth the trip?:D
