I'd heard a lot about Clayton Street Chippy for many years without having tried it, it used to be Lancashire Cricketer Jack Simmons favourite Chippy for his "Simmo" Fish, Chips, Peas with a Steak Pudding on top!

I decided to give it a try 2 or 3 years ago, but i'm afraid i was very dissapointed, Fish with really thick stodgey Batter, not light and Crispy as it should be, and "Crinkle Cut" Chips!!...again these were soggy, ive not been back since i'm afraid!

PS...If anyone has any visits planned to Riggs Garden centre at Walsden nr Todmorden...make sure you try Grandma Pollards Chippy just further down the road from Riggs. Fantastic Fish n Chips, been there many years, they make there own Savoury and Fruit Pies too. They usually stick a couple of Scallops - battered potato slices - on top for free too....Damn Good!

Fantastic chippy, and luckily the right side of the border. So you don't have to worry about holiday tum, by drinking the foul foreign water, if you have a brew.

Its a good un all right, and you can also sit by the side of the canal with yer grub on a nice day. Their Strawberry Pies are lovely too, usually take one away for my supper.

Another good one is Senior's Chippy at Normoss Blackpool, who do lots of different varieties of Fish, some of the more sustainable ones, like John Dory, and some ive not even heard of before, "butter fish" was one they had on my last visit! They have branches at Lytham and Thornton to, but i prefer the Normoss one!

Best Regards - Taggy

I've been to this one a couple of times too Taggy .. have a friend that lives at Walsden, and usually go there for our tea to save her cooking. Yes, very good ... we did buy a fruit pie, but was too much for me after their main meal. Not always good for parking though. Very busy most of the time and extremely friendly owner.

It has been closed for most of Jan, has it reopened yet?

And anyone any idea why it was closed?

I mus admit I was surprised when I got a cornish pasty from there & the insides were pink, they are usually a dull grey :D

They've been on holiday.

Being a small family business they have to close down when they're on their jollies.

Seconded, although I must put a vote in for The Atlantic in Rishton which is one of the last 'proper' chip shops in the area and is superb.
