Hyndburn Sports Centre

After visiting HSC with my little boy who attends swimming lessons I was physically sick from the absolutely disgusting stench in the female changing rooms. It smells like sewage and the level of hygiene in there is extremely poor. I have been told that the male changing rooms are spotless but have never been in.

I wonder, what did they actually do when they spent lots of money on the centre a few years ago, the only difference in the changing rooms I see is new lockers. The benches, toilets, showers & floor tiles are just as minging as they ever were. You are supposed to improve your health by attending a sports centre not put it as risk.

I have complained to the staff but it would seem that it's acceptable because its been like that for years!

Now I learn that the prices have just risen in April!!! Laughable!

So these Easter holidays I chose not to take advantage of the 'free swimming for children' at HSC and took mine to Waves and paid packet to swim in a packed pool with not much nicer facilities, though there was no smell & I actually managed to retain my stomach contents this time.

It was like that a couple of weeks ago when I took Ellie for her lesson, there was someone mopping at the time so I couldn't say anything it certainly smelt like a problem with the drains, but when I went last week it was clean, though it was 10am.

It sounds like it does contravene health and safety regulations. Surely they have those notices up on the wall somewhere I presume? It's a while since I was there but I'm sure I've seen them. Do they have a contact number on them for complaints?

What a load of rubbish. If there is a problem with the drains how is that the users fault. If they are not cleaned very often that is also the users fault is it?

When they refurbed the chaining rooms they did not re-tile the floor. It is covered in the remains of rusty old screws that used to fasten the old changing room to the floor. It looks like they were just cut off and left in the floor to go rusty. Very shoddy work.

I disagree too, the drains need sorting and the floors should be cleaned every couple of hours at least. Went there on Wednesday for Ellies lesson and the smell wasn't as bad, the floor in the toilets was wet through though and loo roll in only one stall, these are jobs that wouldn't take long to do, so no real reason for this to happen.

A couple of weeks ago my dad had his locker broken into at the sports centre. The theives took all his clothes out and dumped everything in the toilets, after removing his wallet and keys of course.Thankfully he did not have his credit cards in there as he learnt his lesson with that one last year when he got pick-pocketted in Tenerife. The locker did not appear to have been forced and my dad was sure he had locked it properly so the sports centre manager was up in arms panicking that someone had cracked the code to enter the lockers.People hanging about waiting to break into lockers....this is the kind of thing that would be less likely to happen with an attendant on duty.
