Plus, the one thing that the forming of Hyndburn did was put Huncoat back on an equal footing with all of the other towns around it. |

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
I attended the meeting of HBC's cabinet on Wednesday, and PB announced that there was to be a special meeting of the council on either 20 or 21st of November, when the name change will be voted on.
PB is to have a meeting in early November (I think it is the 7th - but will confirm the correct date, when I am sure and of the venue), with the chairs of the area council and other members of the public. My understanding is that anyone will be able to attend to give him their veiws on the name change, but I suspect only people who he knows will be for the name change will get an invitation. This might be the only time that anyone against the name change can express their opinion - although PB probably won't want to listen. |

Re: Hyndburn to be axed.
As an outsider having only web ties to Hyndburn, this does sound more to me like
Accrington is getting it's way and the boroughs outlying towns are having to put up with it. If people are looking for Accrington they can find it easily enough. Hyndburn is the borough that it is in, just like Nelson is in the borough of Pendle. Figures of £20k are being bandied about for name changes but it's going to cost a lot more than that, what about all the smaller buisnesses will they now be forced to change paperwork & signage & who's going to pay for that? Although I have not read all the pages of this thread, was there a referendum/consultation amongst ALL parts of Hyndburn or just those within Accrington? But then whats it matter to me, I dont even live there but it will still affect me as i have interests in a Hyndburn group & do not look forward to the consiquences of losing the area it covers. |

If I was lame I would have gone in my wheelchair. If I was sick then ok I couldn't have gone but I would have asked someone to go on my behalf. If I was supposed to be at work at 7 O'clock in the evening or whatever time the meetings are then I would have swapped shifts with someone or booked the shift off so that I could go to the meeting. If you feel strongly you'll find a way. It was in the Observer a bit back that this issue met with a positive response at the area meetings. |

Shifts .. what's them ? The meetings are usually during the day ... read back posts please re. reports in the Observer, and stastistics of those attending, etc. Don't worry, this has only just begun. ;) |

As for myself, I have no political affiliations to any party. I've lived in London under a Labour council, Lambeth, which was dire, and I've also been a resident under Tory held Wandsworth, which was excellent. Indeed, as good as Labour held Glasgow, another place I've lived. This isn't about party politics. This is about someone so naive, that his idea of a name change for the borough, a sort of expensive Emperor's new clothes, is the most stupid, and costly idea that has ever locally been mooted. And don't forget, as Greg Pope said earlier in this thread, come election time, we'll all still be living in the constituency of H-Y-N-D-B-U-R-N-! |

Neil, would you say the various venues around Hyndburn would easily be able accommodate the 81,496 people who actually live here, if they wanted at attend the area council meetings? |
