Britain Has talent

Has anyone else been watching the auditions for this show? It's to find an act for the Royal Variety Performance. I have been impressed by a few - the 6 year old girl who sang "Over the Rainbow" was amazing - and I've howled with laughter at a lot who were so bad they were good, if you know what I mean.

I won't be watching the 2nd round, I'm not really interested in competition between people who are competent, but the auditions are an absolute tonic. The singers whose mums, you just know, have told them they're brilliant and are really dire and the "novelty acts" who are so abysmal you could weep for them, when you've stopped laughing. My favourite was the ventriloquist who had been practising his act for a whole 3 weeks :D - as Simon Cowell said, "Has nobody told you, you're not supposed to move your mouth?".

If you've seen it, what was your best "worst" performance?

I've really enjoyed watching the auditions, I dont have a particular favourtite but the worst for me as to be the guy who dressed as Kylie what was he thinking of.

Some of them Cashy have been really good, but some of them are awful but think they're good which is hilarious.

Do you really believe that nowhere else in the world is populated by people who think they have talent - and don't? Do you think that the rest of the planet looks on Mr. Average Brit as a po-faced, straight-laced, upright, pompous, humourless gent? I hope not. One of our best, British qualities is our ability to laugh at ourselves. Long may it reign.

The little girl last night was Brilliant has was the young 11yr old on tonight's show.
There have been some really good acts on and some were absolutely horrendous.

I may be an oddball, because I love the show.
It really makes me laugh.:D

WillowTheWhisp 14-06-2007 10:10

Re: Britain Has talent

It makes me laugh too, especially the ones who think they are talented and are hopeless - Simon Cowell's face is a picture!

jedimaster 14-06-2007 12:52

Re: Britain Has talent

anyone watch last night's once again simon cowell proved he wouldn't know talent if it jumped up and slapped him in the face

that trampolinist was brilliant!

Re: Britain Has talent

My money is on the rather ugly bloke with the great voice ! Or the little girl who sang "Wouldn't it be luvverly?"

Nickelson 14-06-2007 20:02

Re: Britain Has talent

i agree lindsay 'wudnt it be luverly' was a brilliant performance

West Ender 14-06-2007 20:38

Re: Britain Has talent

That young boy, Dominic, reminds me of the teenage boy singers that were around in the 50s. He is a natural and so much better than most of the big names around today (they all sing down their noses). He looks a lovely kid too, I rather hope he wins. :)

WillowTheWhisp 14-06-2007 21:48

Re: Britain Has talent

Well Dominic hasn't got through which came as a bit of surprise but the reason Pierce gave - that they wanted variety not just singing - was an absolutely pathetic reason for voting for the monkey guy. At least the opera singer made it through but whoever was in charge of the sound balancing wants taking out and shooting.

Aw, that's a shame. I reckon Dominic has probably been talent-spotted though.

I thought the opera singer was no more than average.

Is this another Cheap programme? Is this where our Licence money goes. It's time good programmes were put on instead of repeats and rubbish

WillowTheWhisp 14-06-2007 22:04

Re: Britain Has talent

Cheap program or not it's showcasing some of the sort of variety acts we see far too little of these days.

Re: Britain Has talent

Is anybody else really annoyed with the way Tony Laf's performances are being over looked for some sob story?

He's a great singer/songwriter with an original quality about him but on this programme we have stupid bints like Amanda Holden making a quick comment about the song and then going on about the way he's a great guy bringing up his brothers kids blah blah blah.

I'm not watching this to get a re-run of Surprise Surprise, I want to see if any of these reprobates have talent.

It was either this or Big Brother....come on... I'd rather see talent...and these people DO...well some of 'em anyway

Re: Britain Has talent

I agree that it's supposed to be about his singing/songwriting talent not about his tragic life and courage and devotion in bringing up his deceased brother's children.

I'm rather surprised the Barwizzards have got through though. I expected it to be the impressionist.

Tombraider 16-06-2007 20:37

Re: Britain Has talent

was it the final tonight? did i miss it.

West Ender 16-06-2007 20:42

Re: Britain Has talent

I said I wouldn't be watching the follow-ups but I've seen some of them and I watched tonight. That little girl, Connie, is terrific and deserved to win. She was spot-on with every note and that's more than a lot of adults can manage.

Tony whats-his-name is, in my opinion, mediocre and used his sob-story to get on the show. Why did we have to be told about it in the first place? What has it got to do with talent? Anyway I'm glad he didn't win and I didn't like his song either.

ploppysirploppy 16-06-2007 21:07

Re: Britain Has talent

I kinda agree with West Ender.... Sob story...Aww.... etc etc...it's a talent show not Trisha
And I did love the little girl... don't mean to critisize her but he singing last time was a lot better

PS.. I wanted the impressionist to go through too :(

lindsay ormerod 16-06-2007 21:16

Re: Britain Has talent

I am now worried that the gap toothed winsome toddler with a weak voice will actually win and beat the real talent in the show just on the strength of her being "cute"; she was pants tonight but none of the judges had the spine to say that for fear of being lynched ! The impressionist was far more talented, and to be honest I would have had Tony thru with or without the sob story. The final will be a mockery if it comes down to voting for the 2 kids. Paul Potts should walk it but I don't trust the judgement given tonight's spineless display.

ANNE 16-06-2007 23:28

Re: Britain Has talent

It's a shame Dominic didn't get though. I would have liked the Cheeky bits to have got through they were really good.
I really want Either little Connie or the girl who sang wouldn't it be loverly to win.

Margaret Pilkington 17-06-2007 13:20

Re: Britain Has talent

Why can't there be an 'Alternative Royal Variety Performance'?....I'm sure the Queen must get tired of the same old Celebs being trotted out every year...with the same old, same old.
Many of the acts that have been knocked out had enough talent to be able to perform in front of her Majesty....and it would be a true variety show of the old order.
I'm sure it could be organised.

WillowTheWhisp 17-06-2007 14:34

Re: Britain Has talent

I wonder if her Maj has been watching the show?

The final is tonight Tombraider.

yes yes yes Paul Potts won !!! Fantastic ! True talent actually prevailed over cuteness ! :Banane20::Banane20::Banane20:

Re: Britain Has talent

Probably the right winner.

Thought the two kids were cute though but don't think they should be doing that at that age - probably too young to really handle all the fame stuff.

Totally agree and said almost the same thing myself much to the disgust of the children in the house :D

West Ender 17-06-2007 21:47

Re: Britain Has talent

He's a good singer but he's not.......different. He'll, no doubt, have a CD out in no time at all, may sing with a few minor opera comapnies and will, eventually, disappear.

I don't know the queen, personally, so I don't know what her tastes are but I do know I'd be bored to death by half the acts that are going to be on the RVP. Me, I'd rather have had someone like the woman who spot-welded her knickers. At least she was a novelty. ;)

I sort of suspect her Majesty may well have been watching. I wonder if she phoned in a vote? :D

I think Paul Potts was fantastic and the £100,000 will help his pay off the debt he got into after his motorbike crash.

Big up to him and i wish him every success in the future.
