Re: Artists in Accy?
Glad you enjoyed it. I go to a couple of exhibition previews a month at different galleries, The booze and smooze is all part of it I am afraid. When you start showing your work at galleries you will get used to it.

I hate situations like that though, its makes me want to be spontaneous and just give up on the whole academic thing and do something i enjoy but I know im not the right person for that. |

Re: Artists in Accy?
Art is only a career if your Totally Devoted, and dont mind being skint, my son got his Masters in it at Reading in 99, we are now 2007 n he still cannot get work in his field, overqualified is the usual answer, he was in Amsterdam last weekend in an exibition, has been part of many such jollies all over europe, all he manages to obtain workwise is lecturing at a college down south, when someones either on holiday or sick, and thats at less pay cos the college apparently has not the certificate to teach at hes level, but fingers crossed the college has now obtained this bit of paper n from september they can, so a phonecall last night told me, n hes in with a chance, if so- its still a bloody long time since june99, so if law is your preferance for gods sake- stick with it.

Two of my cousins took the art option. One ended up running a boarding kennels. :D Neither found financial reward from art but they both still enjoy it.

Re: Artists in Accy?
It can depend on the type of art you do I think aswell. I have a friend who is all round talented at art; drawing painting printing etc. He specialises in graffiti work now and makes quite a bit of money out of doing pubs/nightclub walls etc and he sells stencilled custom trainers sometimes on ebay for double what theyre worth.
I think I will do law at uni and if I dont like it, I always have the oppurtunity to change course. |
