I am sorry people

The forums are boring and we are losing guest registration because of this.
Same people posting and one or two forum members are hogging all forums.
Lets be more self searching and tackle subjects that may be against the grain but who gives a monkeys anyway, go for it.
There are many very intelligent people on this forum who can stir up many debatable points without scoring brownie points or political points.
Who gives a toss about flowers in the town center? Do they reduce the council tax or make you kow tow to the councilors who sign for the bill to be paid for these? cig buts may be the solution.
Get real.......Dont be so nice.....Do you care who reads the forums.
Tell the councilors what you think.

Some people like to use this forum in the same way that chatting over the garden wall used to be - and that fine with me - I sometimes join in.
Sometimes some serious local matter gets aired which makes it all worthwhile.
There are quiet weeks and interesting weeks just like there are on national news channels.
I recently mentioned that A level results weren't interesting and got told that I would soon married be off to another miserable git like me :D (you cant be too careful here)

You just can't please some people can you?

Too many people posting/not enough people posting.

Too nice/too nasty.

Same old people hogging newbies threads/nobody talking to newbies.

Some of us happen to like chatting about things like the planters and when they have been moved, relocated, watered, vandalised etc. It's part of being part of a community.

Yeah, right, blah, blah, blah, we've heard it all before and no doubt we'll hear it again! (P.S. what's the weather like up Willow's Lane?).

Re: I am sorry people

What can I say... I dont mind what anyone wants to talk about here... everyone is different and has their own opinions on what is important.. whether it be A levels or the flowers in the town square.. what is important to one isnt to someone else, what is boring to one isnt boring to others and thats the way it should be.. otherwise the world would be a very boring place.... debating issues and speaking your mind on a subject doesnt mean one has to personally attack people with a different view... we should all be prepared to listen to and respect each others opinions whether we personally agree with them or not. As for me, I guess Im pretty much the newbie, I have been a member for a while, but havent been very active... mainly just reading the different threads.. and to be honest, I have never set foot in Accrington in my life.. but was invited to join by my good buddy lancYorkYankee. I enjoy most of the threads, debates etc, I find anything about Accrington interesting, because im learning about a new place, even if i cant often join in the conversations due to my lack of local knowledge.. so i say come on... write about whatever you want to... be strong in your opinions, but respect what others have to say and make your arguments without it turning into a slanging match. :)

Much more of local interest is when our spouse has gone overdrawn, and is facing being charged for the privilege...or am I just hogging a thread by posting that, or even scoring a political brownie point?:D

katex 26-06-2007 08:03

Re: I am sorry people

You don't have to apologise for your remarks Roy .. and for criticism levied.

Must admit feel sometimes I am becoming a little of an anorak on here when I comment about the flowers/paving, etc., HOWEVER, this forum has made me extremely aware of my surroundings and the people of my district and most of us do not hold back on what we have to say. Many of us do complain direct to the council so that point is invalid.

Can't agree that subjects have not been varied, just anything and everything, local and world wide have been discussed, some in an extremely heated way.

How can you say that certain people 'hog' the threads ? As far as I know the room for posts on a thread is unlimited and anyone can comment at any time.

Well, Brightspark, let's see you put your money where yer mouth is and enter your first controversial thread today, so that we can all see what we have been missing and put a bit of excitement back into in our lives.

No the council employ people to do the watering on our behalf.:)

See thread on plants the council didn't water here.

I have lived and worked in the Accy area for more years that I care to remember. Probably longer than most of you.
I started this thread to see who would defend Accy sincerely, who would be grumpy, who would be a smart arse and who would kick off.
It worked, now I'm not bored!!

Re: I am sorry people

There is one thing which never ceases to amaze me and it is this:

Why can people not understand that we the dwellers within the boundaries of the "and district" area care not only about the town of Accy but about the rest of the "and district" too. The very fact that we do not like to see things which create a negative impression of our borough shows how much we care about it. If we didn't give a tuppenny fig then we would ignore vandalism, litter, graffiti etc.

But then when we post grumbles about these things there are people who see this as us being negative about the place where we live.

If we were negative about the borough we would ignore the bad things. It's because we love (dare I say it?) Hyndburn that we want it to create a good impression for visitors so they will like coming here and not go home making more sarcastic jokes about it being a dump/chav city/poundland paradise/charity shop mecca etc etc etc.

Re: I am sorry people

Must just say that Royboy you did get this thread going and having read the posts must say that I think Willow has hit the nail on the head.

Standing up for the area has to be good but no complaints about grime etc could be seen as a negative attitude to the area, but by voicing concerns it seems that the area is dirty and the people don't care but I think it's the complete opposite and the only way to get things done/changed is to complain and petition the council

Since you made no mention of Accrington in your opening post, I find this a little confusing.

I thought you were just having a general moan, rather than opening up a discussion as to why people, who obviously care and have an opinion, post about Accrington.

This thread was created to raise a little bit of light hearted banter, which for the most part it did.
General moaning seems to be pastimes that many indulge in, snide comments also.
I lived in Church and that has been destroyed......I worked in Accrington for many years and that environment has been destroyed....I worked at the Coop in Ossy and that has been destroyed.

Forums generally have declining registration as most people discover the forum when it first appears. There are only so many people in accy who can be bothered to talk about accy on the internet when there are a hell of alot of other things to talk about.

I think this is an alright forum for the size of it. Theres a bit of everything so everyone has something to talk about and it seems quite a friendly place to be. Its got plenty of active members who are on at least once a day, which keeps a forum going.

Quality not quantity

I really enjoy the variety that comes up on Accyweb. I can pick and choose which threads to read and which to contribute to.

What really hurts is when a few certain folks attack you because they feel your post is appropriate. Even much worse is when they attack simple family achievements. I must admit, I've been very gunshy about sharing anything that is going on over here. And for that, I am more at a lost then those many of you who have always enjoyed news from this side of the pond.

To merely comment on a thread to "bring someone down a few pegs" is just plain arrogant and unnecessary. I can see going on a bit of an attack when a heated debate is going on but just leave threads alone that you have no interest in. IMO!

That is what I've missed most about Accyweb these 2 - 3 months. Oh, the rest of you are just Tom Terrific! LOL
