Car bomb found in london...
there's meant to be another car found too - not sure if its a bomb car or a getaway car...
A car bomb planted in central London would have caused "carnage" if it had exploded, police sources have said. A controlled explosion was carried out on the car, packed with 60 litres of petrol, gas cylinders and nails, in Haymarket, near Piccadilly Circus. An ambulance crew saw smoke coming from the green Mercedes, near the Tiger Tiger nightclub at 0130BST (1230GMT). Two other areas of London, in Park Lane and Fleet Street, were cordoned off as suspicious vehicles were investigated. City of London Police confirmed at 1700 BST (1600 GMT) that a stretch of Fleet Street was cordoned off between Fetter Lane and Ludgate Circus due to a suspicious vehicle. Earlier a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said that Park Lane was closed at Marble Arch to Hyde Park Corner and a 200m cordon was in place. |

I was like, walking there last week :(
I guess we'll know more as it unfolds. Apparently another cars being examined now by bomb squad. |
Re: Car bomb found in london...
:( I hope this doesn't mean we are in for another episode.

Re: Car bomb found in london...
I THINK THE other cars are more cars they may have used to run away etc

Re: Car bomb found in london...
We twice had our works do in Tiger Tiger in the Haymarket, the bar the bombs were left outside.
It was bad enough living with the IRA, three of whose bombs I heard go off, when I lived in London, as well as lone nutters like the nail bomber. Nowhere is safe, but I'm so glad I don't live there now. |
Re: Car bomb found in london...
Just wait until they get their hands on nuclear materials.

The media is causing a widespread panic based on isolated incidents, making the public believe there's a heightened risk of car bombs or knife attacks or being shot or whatever incident it is that week. |

Hate to say this but people from any other religion can make bombs lol and I was aware of white terrorists long before I was ever aware of islamic ones. As for deviance amplification, I should've known better :( I just got exploited lol. 1 nil to you shakermaker |

The incident is of course very serious, but people shouldn't worry any more than usual about car bombs turning up! There won't be any more or any less around than usual. Guarantee. |

I could say I'm a jihadist and post something similar and nobody would question it because of the stereotypes we have today of linking islam believers with bombing/terrorists. There are white terrorists aswell and terrorists of every race and religion. One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. I don't condone what they do but its one of those things that is within every society, its not just an islamic ideology. |

Do we give in to them and stay at home... or do we carry on:
I have not been to London for a good few years or in large centers, I do not wish to put myself or kids at risk... however they have won, in a way I guess if I don't carry on as normal... what do you guys do ? |

The worst thing people have to live with is the disruption to their everyday lives.
All it takes is one plonker to leave his bag on the train, and the whole tube sytem closes down. |

Re: Car bomb found in london...
call me a cynical sod , but what better way to give credibility to a new "home secretary" , just look at how many different folks have held this job in last 10 years
Jack Straw (2 May 1997 – 8 June 2001) ‡ David Blunkett (8 June 2001 – 15 December 2004) † Charles Clarke (15 December 2004 – 5 May 2006) ‡ John Reid (5 May 2006 – 27 June 2007) ~ Jacqui Smith (28 June 2007 – seems to me none of them have had long enough in the job long to find out the name of the tea lady, let alone long enough to get a decent grasp of the complexities of the job , maybe it was ex PM Tony Blairs way of keeping the cabinet divided and confused about his and his masters (President Bush and Rupert Murdoch) policies on the 'war on terrorism' and an excuse to invade Iraq and possible future bombings of innocent Iranians Would be interesting to read Greg Popes views about the constant cabinet re-shuffles and how it seemed whenever a cabinet Minister fell out of favour in Washington the Minister in question allways seemed to get a 'sideways/lateral' promotion   |
