I dont actually know what foreign aid is but in islam one of the pillars if that they should give to charity regularly.

I feel bad about it for them really as alot of them sign up for those direct debit charities that stop you in blackburn town centre and if I was to be completely honest, there is no way I would ever give to them, especially not with my bank details in the middle of the street.

Most of the muslim girls at college whom I know openly give to charity and always help out with the charity events at college. Its mainly the asians that do the charity work in comparison to the white students.

Didn't a local MP say around the time of Caneze Riaz' death that it is a time for communities to come together and learn rom eachother? Charity was one of the points brought up.

Slightly off topic, so appologies, but whilst trying to lull myself to sleep last night, I was counting how many stalls we've lost from the outside market, since the powers that be decided it would be a good idea to move it, in the name of regeneration.

Toy stall, three fabric stalls, six fruit and veg stalls, three shoe stalls, two greeting card stalls, plus a corset seller, a roast chicken stall, and a cheese stall, from the lock up units on the way into the market from Peel Street.

Anyone think of anymore?

Yes thats what I meant and yes, I also try to give alot of old books to charity once I've had use for them, as books are quite expensive and its good that you can let others have yours for cheap and rummage throug theirs! Being on a students income (very little as unable to work right now) I make alot of use of charity shops! Unfortunatly for me not one charity shop in accy had any pans the other day, but now I am getting some for free thanks to a very charitable person on the forum :)

I think the people who do work for charity and don't mention it to anyone are the ones who should be acclaimed.
Blazey just because some of the Caucasian students do not appear to be doing any charity work doesn't mean they aren't......they may just be a bit more reticent about it.

I have nothing against any of the charity shops or the charities behind them; I always fill the sacks that come thru the door for British Heart foundation or whoever and I give regularly to charities of my choice; my point was that a once thriving shopping street is now occupied by 4 charity shops already and another one opening; yet there is nowhere in Accy to buy sensibly priced work clothes or shoes !

Its not just moving it thats caused the problem. Its being to by very cheap new goods in chain stores like asda, particular when it comes to fresh foods like fish, fruit and veg, and meat, plus it appears much better as its in cleaner surroundings.

I'd rather have a Charity shop than a pound shop any day of the week.
Saying that, I don't even bother looking around Accy anymore, even though it's only 10 minutes walk from my house.
Now Music Zone is gone, Accy is left with a pointless chain of pointless shops.
Even established stores like WH Smiths have very poor stock in Accrington.
It's a crap state of affairs.

Give me Oldham Street in Manchester any day.

I mean on charity days at college. I was on the student commitee, i'd notice if any of them were helping behind the curtain, but again, its the coloured girls who step forward to offer ideas and think of charities to raise money for in the first place.

I must say I never think to do charity events either, I would be one who suggests to do it for our own better education funding and equipment. However I would say I give quite alot to charity as I buy nearly everything from charity shops. Most students in general at college dont tend to be so happy to discuss charity shops as me :p im always quite pleased with my bargains!

I miss music box as well and all I ever did was sit around and natter all day. Cant wait for them to sort the shop back out again.
