Al Jolson was a good Jewish Man, colour and race has nothing to do with the thread, I for one am not racict, but i'm begining to wonder who is, the whites or the blacks?

Sammy Davis Jnr was Jewish and black (Jewish by conversion).

Al Jolson was a "Black and White Minstrel". His real name was Asa Yoelson.

Did anyone see that episode of Love Thy Neighbour, where Eddie thought Al Jolson was black? :D

Actually, if anyone's interested in the 80th Anniversary of the Jazz Singer and in knowing more about the silent-to-sound transition in Hollywood, there's a cracking set coming to DVD in October. You'll need a multi-region player, but I would think most people have those now.

DVD Times - The Jazz Singer 80th Anniversary Edition (R1) in October

Won't interest many I wouldn't think, but it's got me drooling. :)

I wonder if the same fuss would have ensued if Tin Tins dog had been black instead of white?

Yes, because it would have been called Blackie then, instead of Snowy.;)
