30 odd years ago when I was working in a Burnley office, several staff members had money stolen. I wasn't aware of it until my purse was stolen and told managemnt who I suspected. Soon after a trap was set for him and he was caught, 'persuaded to resign', and left the same day, but not prosecuted. He later went on to get a high profile job and I have seen his name in the papers several times over the years.
I hope he is reading this and write this to let him know that I have never forgotten -
YOU LITTLE TEALEAF!!!

That is really good news FC.......I'm glad you got it back. I'm sure the lady would be pleased to know that you got your wallet back....personally I would write a letter to the Observer to thank her....and also to let her know how pleased you were to get it back. Honesty is its own reward.
I could never keep a wallet if I found one....I would have to hand it in.

Oh that is lovely. So nice to know there are people who go out of their way to help others.

Years ago I left a notebook in a telephone kiosk. It wasn't of any value to anyone but me. It had a lot of important info in which I would have been devastated to lose. When I realised I'd left it I went back but it had gone. Later that day I got a phone call from the police station to say it had been brought in and I went to collect it. The young lad who had handed it in had left his name and address so we went round to thank him and to give him a reward. He lived on the Within Grove estate (the telephone kiosk was on Burnley Road) and he'd walked all the way from there to the police station to hand over my book.

When we got to the flat and asked if he was in his Dad (I assume) who came to the door looked exasperated and said "What the b.h. has he done now?" - when we told him he was dumbstruck. He was used to neighbours complaining about the kids making a noise or playing ball games and had assumed that we had a complaint. You should have seen the lad's face when his Dad called him and told him how proud he was of him for doing such a good deed.

I lost my purse in blackburn after going for some lunch, realised it was gone when I got back to the office, re-traced my steps and nothing, so went through all the hassle of cancelling cards etc... But was upset about the sentimental little things like minature cards my kids had made me and photos etc...also the £100 I had just withdrawn from bank..

anyway, few days later received a letter in the post written in really old style handwriting saying not to worry that my purse was found outside where I'd had my lunch and that they were posting it back to me special delivery..yippee I thought.

next day sure enough special delivery arrived with my purse inside...but...minus the money and all the stamps (anything of monetary value)

I consoled myself with the fact I had got my sentimental items back and from the writing had guessed it was an elderly person so decided they needed the money more desperately than me..

and yes I did wonder if they had found the purse already empty of cash, but they had put in the letter exactly where they had found it and it was where I had just left!!

honestly think the cash had already gone red,dont make sense otherwise.

At least you got the most valuable stuff back - the things that can't be replaced. I lost my phone a couple of weeks ago and although I could put a stop on it and get a duplicate sim card I have lost the photos I hadn't got round to downloading :(
