That may well be true Margaret, but I don't recall the prison officers union kicking up much of a fuss about it when Thatcher was in power.... not a wimper from them when the real fight was on!

happen as well, the countrys strongest union NUM was crushed then,so the screws wouldnt have stood an earthly.;)

Shows how public spirited they were to forgo their basic rights. I recall that the police accepted similar loss of rights.
The present situation is the cumulative effect of poor wage rises since (when compared to those of police), and the seriously deteriorating working conditions they are enduring.
It just shows that the 'last straw' situation has been reached, and represents a need for drastic remedies urgently by the Home Office
