Re: If Only I Could

I flew from Cairo to Dahran, Saudi Arabia, on a late Winter afternoon. As the moon came up, the Nile became a silver ribbon threading through the Egyptian desert - magical.

In 1996 my husband and I started talking about taking our "trip of a liftime". We decided that when I was 60 I would retire and use the lump sum part of my pension, plus savings, to go to Australia via Singapore, hire a camper van and spend a month travelling round the country, visit New Zealand for a week or two then come home via Hong Kong. As it was, my husband died a month after we made the tentative plans so it was not to be.

That's so sad. It does make you realise that you should sieze the day, money, time, and numerous other things willing.

Perhaps you'll still make the trip, with your husband there in spirit with you.

I'll second that, hope you do get there someday.

It is sad when plans don't materialise.
i know my Mum and dad were going to do all kinds of wonderful things after my mum retired......she retired in the December....they took off to Spain and had six weeks in the sun....but Dad was ill most of the time and he died just two weeks after he returned home.

Well my sister has been in touch again, they arrived safely and were just relaxing by the pool. Grrrrrrr we got up to wind and rain. I just hope she really makes the most of it. She has worked hard for this trip so good luck to her!!

Bernie, I am sure that she will be storing up lovely memories that will warm her in the coming dark winter months....maybe some pictures too to complete things nicely.

I hope she has a lovely time.
