I don't know what I would have done!!!

It is very very frightening today on the streets

Sometimes I wish I hadn't brought 2 children into this awful world!! I really fear for what it will be like when my boys grow up!!

and i don't think it is gonna get any better!! I think it will just get worse now!

I agree Slinky, I sometimes wonder what the world will be like for my two.

That's true but you are bringing your boys up with values, that is the difference. Other parents seem indifferent to what their kids get up to:(

I agree Bernie, cant believe that any parents would knowingly allow this behaviour.:(

Don't get me wrong I love my children more than anything in this world!!

But I'm so frightened, and as a parent torn. I am torn because I have taught them not to fight. Taught them that fighting never solves anything and they are very good boys. But I feel probably because I have taught them proper values that somewhere along the lines they will probably come un-stuck because of me teaching them this.

Who said parenting was easy eh?? :(

Do you let them go on the streets and fight like hooligans to gain place in today's society??
OR do you teach them properly and hope to god other parents will be teaching theirs the same so that society will finally get " normality " if thats what we can call it?? :(

slinks you got it right and when they grow they will thank you for it. bonnyboy you were right not to confront that could have been a tragic error. i would probably have rung the plod for what good it does? it seems the only option to me, was nice too meet you n the missus at the meet by the way.;)

the title of this thread sent shivers down my spine, we have 2 girls and worry about what the world will be like when they grow up, i would have called the police for what good it would have done , the lads would have been long gone by the time the police arrived(if ever!)if it was a real gun accrington has obviously followed suit with most of the uk , gun culture is very frightening indeed.:(

Confrontation is better avoided in most cases - but your boys should be taught how to defend themselves if needed.

Despite your fears, slinky, please remember that things have been infinitely worse in the past. Even a cursory reading of English history will confirm that.

I would have called the coppers, Bonnyboy - even if I knew they would not arrive on the scene with speed. They need to be alerted to all such incidents. It may well be that the gun toting youth lives in or near your neighborhood and may already be known to the police.

Re: Guns on Accy's Streets

As a responsible and legitimate owner of RIF's (Replica Imitation Firearm) this sickens me. The sport I partake in, Airsoft (UK Airsoft news. for more info) has been under a lot of light from the government lately, mainly because of scallies with cheap "market stall springers" roaming the streets with their rifs. Which is what this sounds like.

As of october 1st of this year the Violent Crimes Reduction Act (VCRA) states that the sale of RIF's to people who do not have a legitimate use for them is illegal. It is also illegal for anyone to brandish a RIF in a public place. if the police were called an armed response unit would have been dispatched and would have been on the scene as quickly as they could. Having dealt with the Armed police on several occasions (through the shooting club I am part of) I am quite sure of this.

The thing is though, the armed police will deal with any RIF as if it w as a real firearm. So if you called them saying "I have seen a youth with a gun on xxx street" they would be prepared to deal with the situation using deadly force if necessary, which is how we get these "Kid shot dead by the police" news stories...

If these so called kids didnt go around brandishing weapons in the first place then there would be no need for an armed response , I do see what your saying , but if these kids want to play with grown up things and mis use them the way they do then let them have the armed response on them , see how clever they are then . and if these kids had nothing to hide they would have nothing to fear.
I ha 4 dhildren and worry each time one of em goes out , up town for a night out , or even just walkin to thier mates .. unfortunately its that easy these days . You dont even have to antagonise but can still be harmed just because some mindless thugs want to have a bit of so called fun .

I would have called the police on 999: followed if safe at some distance and maybe took a pic or video on my mobile:

In fact I would still contact the police ( you never know ) they may turn up there again or be known to the police:

If we sit back and do not stand up to this kind of scum , they will win all the time:

That said I would not be a witness ( not again ) I would tell the police and they can sort it:
